I just found out about this: Unlike campaign missions, your generals don’t receive reduced XP if you replay a Conquest that you already completed. They receive the same large amount of XP that they receive when you use them the first time you clear a certain conquest. Therefore, you can farm XP by playing an easy conquest like Peru 1861 a lot of times.
