At least I can do my Geography assignment. I have to choose one of the various themes that we have studied in the class. I’m going to choose the Fall of the USSR. Honestly sounds like a History class sort of topic, wonder why it is categorised under Geography?

Just a little perspective on this "panic" demic that's known as coronavirus. Death toll worldwide is 6,500 and cases at around 150,000 out of a population of 7.2 BILLION. The Influenza pandemic of 1918 killed an estimated 50 million so unless I am mistaken this thing isn't quite the deadly killer it's made out to be. Heck more people probably die crossing the street, smoking for certain, playing with snakes, bungie jumping, or skipping rope while chewing gum. Yet the whole world is trembling in fear. Interesting! Quarantine is alot like martial law. Powerful way to rob you of your freedom to even leave your home isn't it? Can be indefinite too. Just food for thought.

Perhaps those measures are the things preventing the situation from worsening? You have to keep in mind, with the focus on the Great War and with erratic troop movements the Spanish Flu faced little restrictions on travel or quarantines, and could spread rampantly before mankind realised it was too late. Our own COVID-19 might potentially produce the same devastating results, but its up to national governments to clamp down on them

In the last 24 hours 250 people died in Italy alone. And it’s only going to spread like I said before: we can expect outbreaks in the USA, south-Asia, Africa and South-America. It’s important not to underestimate the disease, yes the death rate is between the 2-4% but that’s with good healthcare and without overflowing hospitals. An outbreak in the USA could cause thousands if not millions of deaths and I don’t even want to think about India or africa

Yes, it is currently obviously impossible to ensure a complete containment, but there are sufficient measures still to reduce the chances of the worst-case unthinkable happening.

Honestly sounds like a History class sort of topic, wonder why it is categorised under Geography? It’s classified under Political Geography. To do Political Geography, you also have to do History. It’s not only saying how was the Fall of the USSR. I also have to analyze the Soviet politics, which are the main reason why the USSR fell. The Soviets focused too much on their external policy and they didn’t bother to upgrade their internal policy, because that very same policy had led the USSR to the position of one of the world’s superpowers. Therefore, they believed that it shouldn’t be changed, and they didn’t listen to the people, because if the people made changes, the Union would collapse. However, they learned on the hard way that there is no such thing as a perfect policiy and that it needs to evolve. Unfortunately, the Soviets realized that way too late, and when Gorbachev introduced the reforms, which were rushed, they weren’t effective enough to stop the USSR’s collapse. In fact, the reforms only worsened the situation. Glasnost allowed the very angry republics to start pushing for independence, and Perestroika allowed the workers to demand higher wages and for the people, desperate to escape poverty, sell their products at high prices. This caused the inflation to go up dangerously. If the reforms had been introduced earlier, perhaps the USSR wouldn’t have collapsed because the people wouldn’t have been angry enough to start pushing for independence and to desperately escape poverty.

The goal in Europe isn’t preventing the spread anymore we’re just trying to slow it down because we otherwise don’t have enough IC places

I respect your view but I am already and always safe. My safety comes from within me, not from some outside force or source. Now if this thing gets like The Stand, 28 Days Later, or I Am Legend then I'll start panickin!

Soon it will be where a twig snapping causes the whole herd to stampede...sorry guys. I'll sit this one out in my zen tranquility and I wish everyone wellness and calm!
