I dug through the forum a bit but I haven't found a solution to my dilemma. I have enough medals to buy any general currently in game, my roster consists of: Stonewall, McClellan, Hotzendorff and MacArthur with Henry Horne as a backup artillery. Naturally I'm not including the generals you receive as a reward.
But my main concern is who to get next, I've went over the forums and got a few picks but I can't really decide on any of them, those are: Johnston Beatty Hindenburg Lee
Which one of them is most needed in my composition and/or helps beat the campaign the most.
Thank you in advance for your time and answers.

It depends on what chapter are you on, if you are in the German or British campaigns, buy Beatty as there are quite a few naval missions around, if not then buy Johnson, he is really strong.

I agree with Seger , in general you can probably get by with having high battle ability gens on naval ships until late 3 star campaigns, and you already have two cavalry gens.

Lee is one of the best we have so far, but be prepared to use several textbooks
Adding onto your list get Ivanov too, 3 best artillery generals (except for leopold, since he exacts a heavy toll on your textbook reserves, unless you desperately need him later on for German history mode missions) are Ivanov, Hindenburg and Hotzendorf.

i have hindenburg, johnston, haig, ivanov and hötzendorf. who should I take next? I'm still in doubt between E.Lee, Beatty and Joffre. I am currently in the seventh campaign

I am currently in the seventh campaign hope you have maxed stonewall as your main cav, he and moltke (with johnston) is sufficient so no need for joffre as for now. I would recommend Beatty, then Ivanov, then Lee
