this thread is a suggestion, it's best but you don't have to stick to it.
first get hotzendorf: before the update he was amazing, now he just a great arty gen for a low price. Perfect as our First general. Don't replace skills on him because you will sell him later.
then jackson: best Cav gen in the game, and he's free! Replace station and riding master.
then Beseler: best offensieve arty gen, he give you the Firepower you need. Replace plain fighting, Mountain fighting is good because of th e huge mobility boost.
then Plumer: second best Cav gen, he has good skills and damage and is much better then the Joke we call mcclellan. Replace ridingmaster, alert can wait.
then Strassenburg: best inf gen and he is a lot cheaper then e.lee. Replace mountain fighting.
then Hindenburg: best arty gen to dominate cities, his skills are decent and his damage is even better. Replace landfort, keep aura it isn't to bad.
then beatty:second best navy gen, he is perfect in every way. Don't Replace anything.
and finally E.Lee: the second best inf gen, not the best skills but we can fix that. Replace tunnel and battle array, keep ambush it still is a decent skill
Oh and replace Hotzendorf with ivanov: replace inspiration Now you have the standard team.
A few good suggestions to get after this are:
Johnston: the best Cav gen after plumer and Jackson. Replace counterattack.
Hipper: best navy, Replace inspiration
Haig: good inf gen. Replace inspiration and street fighting.
Avoid:
garibaldi: I cry every time
Stepanovic: he is joffre but just more expensive
radko: Biggest scam in ew6:1914
rupprecht: bad skills, bad damage and only 4 skills
boyadzhiev: Why? Did people forgot that we have books?
History mode gens:
-battle of gettysburg mcclellan meade
-march to the sea mcclellan meade
-austro-prussian war none
-franco-prussian war none, if realy needed falkenhausen
-Russo-turkish war nikolaevich if realy needed, nicholas II plehwe
-second cuban war of independence macarthur
-Russo-japanese war none

Edit: Hindenburg en Ivanov can switch places, same for Haig and Boroevic. And upgrade Nicholas I and Farragut they will help you when you don’t have alternatives Thanks for making one!

I think you can even get jackson earlier than Hotzendorf.I got him at the second campaign. It really depends on which campaign you are for buying which general.

You don't need Hotzendorf. Ivanov, Hindenburg and Leopold are better choices for endgame. You can get enough books to make them better than Hotzendorf from the start.

Depends on which faction you want to invest in. If you prefer to have a strong cavalry base then you can reserve the initially limited textbooks for cavalry generals while getting Hotzendorf and leaving artillery textbook skill swaps for later.

Yes you can but Hotzendorf will be enough, Leopold will not a large investment to be good and every general needs around 1-2 skills replaced. Using 25 on Leopold is just a waste until late game

Here is the guide: Stonewall and Sheridan are free, so there are your first two cavlary generals. Stonewall is an endgame general so plan his skills wisely. Upgrade Sheridan a bit, change cover for plain fighting and he will be in your team for a long time as your third cavlary general and will be useful in History mode. First medal buy is Hotzendorf and second arty is Meade or Vazov ,Meade will also be useful in History mode. Then, second medal buy should be Sidney Jonston, showe aura and plain and he will be perfect. Third buy Ivanov or Hindenburg. When you have decent team consisted of 3 cavlary and 3 arty gens, then you can think about one infantry and one naval general, upgrade Farragut a bit because he will be good second navy general and will be useful in History mode. The rest is a thing of taste ☺
