Time to rank all of the generals as with GCR. I will also mention the skills that need to be replaced. Pink = Very Good Turquoise (light blue) = Great (Very good but very expensive to boot/ there are superior options)Green = Good (there are better ones but passable. Can buy for entertainment purposes)Yellow = have some good qualities when given in a campaign, but not worth purchasing
Orange = Generally bad generals
Red = very bad, the worst of the worst generals given.
IAPS: Scheer: With hipper and beatty (who are free), an extra navy general is not needed. Will need 15 textbooks to be ideal (add tactics master and alert). Still great.
Petain: Straussenberg is added who is a must buy, even with disregarding his aura. Petain is very op and very cheap (6$). He is great but uneeded. Vip bonus is pretty good too. Haig Boreovic and Robert E Lee are not that much worse (but will need piles of textbooks (except boreovic)). Change alert to tactics master or ambush.
Foch: starts out as good as napoleon in ew6. Can easily make him better and better. Great artillery general to use as the aura general. But since besseler exists, he is not necessarily a must have anymore. Change artillery master and counterattack to pf and salvo.Ludendorf: still amazing. Has a 5/5 skill set. Does not require any additional textbooks. You cannot make anyother general as good as him without pouring in tons of textbooks. You can turn turn many cavarly generals like stonewall jackson, plummer, and johnston (just to name a few) into his equal with sufficient textbook investment. Japanese General Bundle (Overall) Heihachiro: great but needs alert and line of battle to be added. Beatty and hipper exist.Lwao: a decent general but will need a terrain bonus and salvo to be added. Will be pretty good after that (Not the best). Not much better than Leopold, if even. Tanemoto: you are paying for a grant with defense formation. You will never use him after 2 weeks.
Infantry: Robert E Lee: Can make him very good but also very expensive. Change tunnel and battle array to plain and something else. Borevic: Only needs one skill changed to be pretty solid. Flexible terrain bonus. Arguably better than Macmahon but also absorbs way more damage. Swap battle array with assualt.Douglas Haig: He needs street fighting to be changed as infantry, unlike cavarly, is not very good at defending cities. Swap inspiration.Straussenberg: Petain except free. What more has to be said. Swap Mountain fighting.Lettow Vorebeck: pretty good, but there are many generals that can do what he does and are better than him. Still pretty solid. Swap street fighting to a better skill.
Nicholas I: He is free and far better than grant, but is unlocked late in the game and will require tons of textbooks to improve. Can make him into a primary infantry general if one was to safe the medals. Swap tunnel to a better skill, maybe alert as well.
Bismarck: pretty good. But boreovic is still a better choice imo. Swap counterattack for terrain bonus.
Garibaldi: 3 skills. None of which are bad but only 3 skills. Get borevic or macmahon. Swap...
Micis: Grant with cover. Maria Bochkareva: pretty solid skills. Can be a strong general. But at the same time though, there are better choices. Change: mountain fighting.Macmahon: still pretty solid imo. Requires only counterattack to change. Debatable whether borevic or macmahon are better.John J. Pershing: can make him into a petain without aura. But why bother, especially when you can get nicholas i for free. Swap counterattack.Boradzhiev: what could be a even blue tier general is ruined by his abmismal rank. No swaps requirement.Grant: at least he is free. Can make him decent by swapping battle array with assualt and counterattack with a terrain bonus. But that is very expensive so why bother. Last 3 skills are pretty bad (cept inspiration which is meh). Swap battle array for assualt at the very most. Has good ability at least. Nikolai Ruzksy: there are better free generals around. Swap sailor.
Galwitz: only tunnel needs to be swapped. Is free so is a good aura. But I would not spare the medals and get straussenberg instead.
Carol I: too few skill slots to be end game. Plus galwitz is free so. Swap alert for terrain bonus. Macarthur: his only crime is being capped at duke. Free and amazing skill set. Maybe not end game material tho (Straussenberg). Better than boyadzhiev and galwitz.
Falkenhausen: you don't need him
Esperey: for a guy with only 3 skill slots, I was expecting better skills.
Albert I: Good defensive skills. But i would put them on a better general. Still not bad.
Zhekov: Cheap and strong, but macarthur is way way better.
Fakenhayn: better than zhekov
Stanley Maude: you don't need him
Beauregard: has 4 skill slots, but 3 of his skills are terrible. Worse than grant.
Enver Pasha: if you want him ironically, be my guest. Bojovic: Pretty solid combo. But you don't need him. Ambrose Burnside: Pretty sold, especially considering his price. Painful crits.Cavarly:Herbert Plummer: way better than Mccellan, but the difference will cost you 1000 extra medals. Still, very worth it. Swap alert for Strike (and maybe riding master for surprise). Stepanovic: Solid, but there are better choices out there. Keep inspiration, tactics master, and strike: give surpise and a terrain bonus. But sidney is also cheaper and better imo.
Joffre: Only needs one skill to go (manuever for strike). But at the same time though, Plummer is way better. Stonewall Jackson: free and absolutely op. Station is pretty good on cavarly so I would trade riding master for strike. Maybe give him surprise as well. Can be a cavarly general strong enough to rival ludendorf. Molke: if you swap counterattack for jungle fighting, he will be a significantly better teodorov, who is good but only duke. He will be very fast while also being relatively hard hitting. While he may not be ideal for end game as some of the other generals with 5 skill slots like sidney johnson, joffre, and even moltke the younger. I urge you not to disregard him and make him a main until you get a 4th cavarly general.
You can also invest 15 textbooks in him and make him a ludendorf lite, but I would get sidney johnson for that role.
Purple if medals are an issue.Blue if otherwise. Sidney Johnston: Very good once counterattack is swapped for a terrain bonus and riding master is replaced by surprise. Afterwards, he will be better than ludendorf. Easily better than joffre and moltke the younger. Rupprecht: Phillip Sheridan with better stats. Nah!
Molke the Younger: Once you give him strike, he will be very good. Maybe better than Joffre but not Sidney. George McCellan: the once good falls from grace. Get plummer or give moltke cav commander. You don't need him. But if you purchase him over plummer, swap edge for surprise and he will be a cheap murat. But his combined ability is not that impressive when compared with other generals. Mackensen: in Ew6, Radetsky was rarely bought. And that game did not have skill swaps. Horrible.
Hubert Gough: far better than radetsky (mackensen), but he still has 3 bad skills.
Sherman: We get way better generals than him for free (sheridan, jackson, molke). Plus duke... why?
Brusilov: We get way better generals than him for free (sheridan, jackson, molke). Wilhelm II: bad. Why make a general with bad skills emperor.Archdue Eugen: bad. Why make a general with bad skills emperor.Plehwe: bad.
Albrehct: swap sailer for strike and he will be pretty great. Only issue is duke.
Halil Cut: bad.
Aversecu: is stonewall jackson not good enough?Stuart: not a good aura considering his other skills are bad and he is capped at duke. Krasnik: pretty op, but not good enough for end game aura. Still a solid cheap and powerful general with perfect skills.
Georgi Todorov: If only he wasn't capped at duke, he would be so good!
Luigi Cadorna: biggest clown of ww1. Awful. Plus you get him late.
Nikolaevich: starts off bad but can make him end game good with 15 textbooks, and pretty good with only 5. Unfortunately his ability is not impressive when compared to joffre but his skills and rank suggest the countrary. Sturm: Saved from very bad by jungle fighting Fischer: Saved from very bad by jungle fighting Phillip Sheridan: swap covert into a better skill like surprise and he will be a very good general for free. Will get yu far in the game. Artillery:
Beseler: Hotzendorf with better ability and extra skill slot. Op. Hindenberg: great defensive skills. Only landfort needs to swapped for another skill. Great! Ivanov: solid, but inspiration has to go. Plain fighting would be a good skill to add to make him very versatile.
Prince Leopold: Compared to bessler, hotzendorf, ivanov, and hindenberg, he is worse. Needs 3 skills to be changed. Kutuzov of EW6 1914.
Hotzendorf: pretty solid. A far cheaper and easier to use alternative to hindenberg . Can purchase after besseler and someone else are in your aresenal.
Radko Dimitriev: would be great but is capped at duke.
Nicholas II: not worth getting unless for reasons not related to game mechanics. Otherwise bad skills but good max ranks.
Otto Von Below: not worth getting unless for reasons not related to game mechanics. Otherwise bad skills but good max ranks.
Mustafa Kemal: not worth getting unless for reasons not related to game mechanics. Otherwise bad skills but good max ranks. George Meade: Jourdan of EW6 1914. But I would skip him and go streat for bessler. Plus he lacks salvo and a terrain bonus. Andrey Selivanov: at least he is free!
George Milne: I bought foch before the textbook update just so I would not have to use you. You have only become more and more useless since. I wasted 10$ not to use this general. Keep that in mind. Has aura and nothing else.
Vladimir Vazov: as good as meade as a starter general imo.
Henry Horne: as good as meade as a starter general imo.
Navy: Hipper: give him alert and he will be very powerful. Nelson of Ew6 1914.
Beatty: buy him as a secondary navy general. Give him escort. Will be very good.
Reginal Bacon: if you need a third naval general, he is not a bad option.
Duke of Aosta: if you need a third naval general, he is not a bad option (but bacon has a higher max rank).
Cobanli: Cheap and pretty good. de Robeck: why are so many navy generals with auras given to us for free. Has very high output. Can be the third naval general.
Max Looff: finally, a navy general for free with no aura. If you don't want to waste the medals on the duke of aosta or bacon, this guy will be a good replacement. Horace Hood: sorry mate, you are not needed. will be good if bought. Also has escort so if beatty and hipper are not purchased, will be a great substitute into the wolfpack (to save textbooks). Alfredo Acton: sorry mate, you are not needed. will be good if bought. Guepratte: sorry mate, you are not needed. will be good if bought.
David Farraguat: Pretty great. But imo Max Looff and de Robeck will be much finer additions to the wolfpack (unless beatty and or hipper will not be bought). Then He would be a must have. Also, I believe that giving Ludendorff JF is a good idea. It’s up to preference, but I gave mine JF and he is able to go through the jungle and surprise the enemy. Still deals as much damage as before. And also, that giving Foch MF instead of PF is a good idea, maybe better. Allowing Foch to go through mountains without trouble would be very beneficial for him, considering that Artillery is arguably the slowest unit type.

And please don’t rush. Take your time with the list. Considered the changes. Curved pershing, macmahon, moltke the younger, joffre, radko dimitriev, and a few others down. Curved ivanov (to purple as add jungle fighting instead of inspiration and he will be very very good) and a couple of other cheap free generals up.

That is the key to make a good list: Listening to other’s opinions and seeing if they are good or not.

I see how this is coming so far. Can anyone else think of a general that would be hilarious to buy like *Auto corrected* Pinnes in GCR?

Or better yet george milhne. Anyone who buys him eats their cereal without any milk I legitimately dislike cereal with milk. I like it with just a little. Keeps the crunchy taste but ads the extra flavor to it. The organic flavor is the best. Without milk, i end up being very thirsty after I eat it.

Without milk, i end up being very thirsty after I eat it. 1. I don't like milk on my cereal as well. 2. Just chug the milk you didn't put on your cereal if you like to do that and you forget.

Its bad if it gets soaked to heavily.

Back to the topic slightly, Grant is soaked cereal. As an American, that's bad news for patriotism.

Back to the topic slightly, Grant is soaked cereal. Cadorna’s cereal is genetically modified. You grow dumber every time you eat it.
