You want an artillery general to get attacked? I really don't want or seek to be attacked, but many situations require one of two or three art pieces to be exposed when engaging. Also the AI is targeting cities / key points. Sometimes I find a need to use generals to hold them (eg lack of income or survival). Agree I wouldn't add this skill, but having a few generals with it gives strategic options in game. I am actually thinking about having a punching-bag general with skills like Revenge, Counter, and Dogfight exactly for the reason you mention, strategic options. Probably good for a challenge conquest with Balkan nation. But that is probably not an artillery general.

I'm pretty sure normal mode is harder for the Balkan countries since they start off so much worse. Serbia in 1914 can't do anything at the start. Romania can field some Cavalry at the start, but that means it's better to go on the offensive. Greece can easily crush both Bulgaria and the Ottomans with the right strategy. Montenegro is like Serbia but with one general-free Howitzer. So I actually think a general like that would be better suited as an artillery general, it also helps that they can counterattack at range, unreliable as that is. Cavalry should defend by killing enemies and infantry can't do much.

I admit that I have a picture that artillery is fragile and since they have range attack they are better kept at distance. But if the general is to be a punching bag then my earlier thought is not relevant. And weapon-to-armor disadvantage of artillery can be offset by +flat damage skill like counter and salvo. Still I think this is something that I need explore. Fortunately, I have accumulate quite a lot of medal. Oh wait, I cannot buy Oyama Iwao with medel.

Slightly worse than hindenberg but still decent. That’s just false. Hindenburg has decent offensive power and great defensive abilities whereas Lwao doesn’t even have Salvo to begin with. He starts off bad, not even good at defense like Hindenburg is.

i agree with valdermar, because lwao isn't anywhere near the best artillery general, having revenge on him gives you more strategic options as he said, which can be both positive and negative. however, i think lwao is a green ranked general when you give him salvo, not the best general, but quite good tho.

Precisely why he is an IAP. I can't imagine shoving someone like Esperey onto an IAP slot for purchase
