It's 0029h (content finished at 0056h; formatting finished at 0131h), every restaurant in [undisclosed location in Pacific Northwest] has been closed down due to COVID 19, and the so-called "boomer remover" has adversely affected my life as of right now.
Perfect time to make a guide that requires little effort! The Risviltsov Way (TM)!
BRIEFING
World War I is on the horizon. The German Empire, fresh off of Otto von Bismarck's calls for a strong monarchy and German unification - which were fulfilled -- are looking to help their allies Austria-Hungary against theTriparte Pact Entente -- namely, Serbia, Russia, and France. The Schlieffen plan, devised by Field Marshal Alfred von Schlieffen, plans to force the German Empire into Paris, going through south Belgium and Alsace-Lorraine. Unfortunately for you, Moltke the Younger has asked for help from some of his peers. You might as well wave a white flag seeing this massive army right on the doorstep of the capital. Fear not. This isn't as hard as it looks. Even Poland in 1939 gave stiff resistance against an even stronger Nazi Germany and a pre-industrialized Soviet Union.
[second edit: realizes there is no banter]
Big daddy kanones are ready to shooty-shoot up your city! Extraordinary big military men with spiky helmets who look like punks before being a punk was cool! Oh my! Not for my civilized Belgium! King! King! Help! The Germans are trying to take over our country! Don't try to be a rollover like in WW2; in WW1, Belgium wasn't a rollover country. They could stop the Germans in a few battles, and with the help of the British and the French, held the German advances to not Paris. If only Paris was Belgian... Huh? Did I say that out loud? ... Ah! Don't hit me with bread! I said nothing! (de Gaulle is gonna hang me once he gets his hands on me, like he strangled/asphyxiated West Africa)
GENERAL STRATEGY
1. Diplomacy is amazing, isn't it? Get important allies into the war with haste; your saviours are France and Britain. Some people advise delaying the German offensive, but I recommend against doing this.
2. Defend the capital with all you've got. Petain & friends will give a small amount of help, which might be enough. Your artillery piece's general will ultimately decide if you survive the onslaught or not.
2b. Spam militia when you're unable to cover the capital with a garrison. Hope that you've eliminated enough enemies before you run out of money.
If you've survived the onslaught: congratulations! You've pretty much finished this campaign.
3. Snipe cities with riflemen like it's Finland 1939. Gravitate towards the Balkans.
4. Clear out the Balkans. If you've played the militia/riflemen spam card, you'll have enough units in the right places to take cities and give the Balkan Central Powers a boot from the world.
5. Destroy the Ottoman Empire and force them to give this Ataturk dude a try.
SPECIFICS
1. I had Leopold with an ambulance and a tent on the artillery. Having a great artillery general in this conquest is rather crucial. Bribed France and Britain. Kept the cavalry unit in the city.
2. Kept the cavalry unit in the city until their health was below 150. Initiated militia spam and continued fighting tough, trying to exploit any sort of weapon-armor advantages.
3. Managed to fight off the German Empire; do you really need specifics from here?
