The other Grenadier. I like old guards more because Veteran is more reliable and works on both player and enemy phase, surprise attack works only on player phase.
But being a grenadier is very handy regardless. Tech requirement spoils things though.

You're right about that, Veteran(cy) on the French (25%) plus Alert (25%) would equal to that of Cover except this one's active (not chanced). I wonder if they stack when you actually add cover into the mix or not? That'd be a crazy 100% dmg reduction, esentially the ambush skill or this guy! Yes, this Guard Grenadier! The ability to dodge (counter) attacks!

Amazing Infantry unit. However, the French grenadiers are arguably better. Still worth using.
