I look at Jourdan and he has three equipment slots. The middle slot lets me equip any of the three things I have bought or won - the two ambulances and the short sword.

The left hand slot lets me equip nothing. There are no items in that slot to equip.

Likewise Clinton, who has only the left hand slot open, cannot equip any of the things I have bought.

How do I obtain items to fill this left hand slot? Are there particular ones I have to obtain?

The last slot let’s you equip a medal, which you get for completing certain achievement. These medals increase the level on one skill by 1. And is the only way to get lv6 skills.
