Many of you, including me initially, claimed that this was impossible without medical packs. It is one of the alarmingly tough missions in the game, as this challenge mission only allows you to use 1 general and take 3 heavily guarded objectives. Recently, I finally found a way to beat this without me having to use ANY medical packs at all. How fortunate
Ok first things first, move your New Infantry unit to join Boyadzhiev's group. For the one general you can use, I recommend a strong artillery general, since he will be crucial for snatching the cities fast to avoid being stuck. I used Beseler with 0 terrain skills (I was dumb and swapped them out bbbbbuut anyways....) so this should be even faster if you have one with mountain fighting. I dont know about cav/inf generals, but it will sure be tougher. I pushed everyone forward, and out of all these units note that the 3 most important units that you MUST NOT kill off are:
a) Your general (obviously hahaha)
b) New Infantry
c) Light Artillery (if it gets destroyed you can build another one later after capturing the South West city.
Notice how I keep my New Infantry unit from danger and only move him when Boyadzheiv moves. Back to the main front, you should have cleared a path and you can start attacking the southwest city with your artillery + cavalry. See my almost dead artillery unit? I was a buffoon there and that prevented me from clinching the third star, but more on that later (this is foreshadowing ) After you take the city, you will trigger the Serbian troops in the middle of the map to charge down at you. Spawn a light artillery if your initial one had been killed off.
New Infantry quickly follows your allies and gets poised to snatch the city away. Your remaining troops have 2 objectives left, defend against the incoming onslaught, and somehow find a way to take the last objective city.
Ho what's this? Yes, I am entering the water. I have seen many attempts including mine where one tries to skirt past the enemies on land to help Boyadzhiev/take last city. This is where you surely would need medical packs to sustain your troops. However, I know maybe some of you might be doing this already, but I sent my artillery general, along with one light artillery and a lmg (can be any unit, even low health ones). I guess this is pretty much self-explanatory, and it capitalizes on the AI's targeting weakness. More on that soon. Also, I drastically wasted my gold as I had to rebuild my light artillery unit. If you managed to keep your light artillery healthy (above 50% hp), then you should not follow me, but focus on spawning infantry units both to defend, and fulfill the mission objective.
Yoink, city gets stolen. If your allies take it first, wait for Stepanovic's forces to come and leave the city open for you. Of course you would need to place your New Infantry out of harm's way before swooping in. Once you secure this city, spawn militia to defend.
2 well-defended cities, and one open enemy city left for your amphibious troops to take it. How did this happen? Basically, if you move fast enough, with this coordinated effort the North East and South West cities will be taken at approximately the same turn, triggering the Serbian troops to split up and go for you at both cities. While doing so, they completely ignore any troops straggling to the bottom right of the map, or any troops out of their range in the water. They don't even spawn city defenses, maybe only once but after that that's it. I exploited this by sending my troops across the lake to land unchallenged in Serbia territory, when I landed there was only an infantry unit guarding the city. 2 turns later it was killed, and the AI did not spawn any more units to defend, not even from the nearby stable. With you spawning defensive infantry units, and taking the last city...
Boom. No medical packs too!
