I was asked to make a guide on how to beat this challenge with 3 stars. I am too lazy to mention all possible details, but I hope it could be useful anyway
So, let's call a town guarded by Ferdinand "the Center", a town guarded by Hotzendorf "the right flank" and a town guarded by Germans "the left flank". Apparently if we do nothing both our flanks (and possibly the center as well) will crumble eventually. So, our main aim is to stabilise the situation in the Center and to improve our communication between the Center and both flanks.
First of all we have to support the Center and to prevent a breakthrough there:
The Center is the most important key point, therefore don't hesitate to "steal" it if opportunity arrives or to recapture it immediately if this town is lost:
