I would rather have more cannon generals then tank ones due to being targeted heavily by nukes and planes. I am also a defensive general so the cannon works best in hiting your target in range and also does excellent damage to tanks and goes great with infantry and some amor. So perhaps 3 main ones, Konev, Leeb and Arnold Nope, again Arnold is an air commander, he doesn't perform well on artilleries. That's why I find crowd tactics on Konev super useful.

I would rather put him on a aircraft carrier due to his air Force tatics. So buy him if you need better aircraft damage. I would put him in the back lines to provide air cover for your generals

But other artillery generals besides Leeb and Konev aren't worth buying. Besides tanks are main forces, that's why they target you tanks. I think the AI always target your unit with highest damage output to hit with missiles and air strikes. If you only use artilleries their nukes and missiles would be allocated to strike your artillery generals instead. Besides, tanks have air defense and take 10% less damage from nuclear strikes.

But tanks are only so powerful in the beginning, you may be able to take out more units; they will also use up health very quickly and Cost much more then simple cannons. Also nukes are more likely to Target units with more health. Plus just defending allows the AI to use up it's resources and your are able to bulid your Anti air guns faster.

Tanks are actually the best offensive units. What make tanks special is their 'assault' ability which can be exploited to their maximum effect by artillery, infantry, and air supports. I added blitzkrieg (instead of panz leader) to Rommel so that he can function as 'semi-artillery' which doesn't get counter attacked very often + the 'assault' ability. This game is actually about tanks, so adopting a kind of "Heinz Guderian's doctrine" is always great.

Yes, but the blitzing through your enemies Is easy at first, but when fighting a long war is a flaw to the tatic, as seen in the Patriotic war and the Napoleonic invasion of RUSSIA.

That's why you need 2 artilleries to accompany your party so that they can bog down the enemy's morale without receiving counterattacks. Your tank generals can focus on doing 'assaults' to surrounding enemies with the help of other units. Tanks are also very useful to tank out damages from the enemy (especially Graziani) as they can have up to 1000 hp.

This game is actually about tanks, so adopting a kind of "Heinz Guderian's doctrine" is always great. And I dont think your particular playing style matches Guderian's. You seem to prefer powerful, enveloping thrusts to destroy the enemy and his position, but Guderian's approach is much faster and daring, where the objective is to move as fast as possible and capture cities quickly to cut the enemy off and ensnare them. Without explosives or mobile air generals this will be pretty tough for your playing style and preferred skills
