Try getting Hindenburg/Beseler/Ivanov. Then, your roster is pretty much set. Get Beatty & Hipper for navy, and Straussenberg and Lee/Boroevic for infantry

Get Beseler and Ivanov first, they will carry you through the game and each of them needs only one skill reset to be tier 1 (Beseler: storm fortification into artillery expert; Ivanov: Inspiration into plain fighting). They will have high mobility and enough hex fields for their damage boost. Hindenburg needs much more textbooks to be effective, but once you have him you may put Artillerry Commander on him and you are fine.
Straussenberg and Lee/Boroevic for infantry are fine. I took Bismarck as 2nd cause of history missions (counterattack into plain fighting).

Should I sell hotzendorf for Beseler/Ivanov? Given that Beseler is pretty much a better Hotzendorf, I’d say yes. Although, if you have 15 textbooks, I would buy Ivanov and change Mountain Fighting and Inspiration for Jungle Fighting and Pierce. |

Thanks for the advice, I sold hotzendorf for beseler and changed his mountain to arty commander. Also, are there any good ways to get textbooks? I gave Jackson mountain fighting, but I regret that.

Try playing history mode; a great mission that can be easily done in 7-8 turns is the Austro-Prussian War with Moltke, Beseler and Hindenburg. They often give silver medals, but if you are lucky enough sometimes you may receive textbooks. Other than that, the store is the next best place to farm textbooks. Honestly, video ads may give you 3 textbooks daily, its a pity pc version lacks this

Get boroevic/Lee for infantry, and beatty as your second naval gen. After that you may focus more on history mode generals.
