As the world’s best-selling single with over 100 million copies sold, this song has been covered by many other singers, but the masterful original by the songwriter Irving Berlin, and by Bing Crosby in 1942, will remain timeless. The song premiered in the 1942 Hollywood film Holiday Inn that starred Bing Crosby, an innkeeper. White Christmas came to be an essential Christmas tune among several others from the 1930s-1950s. Hitherto there had been songs that served as entertainment pieces for soldiers during the then Second World War, but this particular hit stirred up sentiment and longing for peace, effectively boosting the morale of the US soldiers. In fact, it had been stated that as an entertainer, Crosby was one of the major sources of morale and motivation for the US troops fighting in various theatres globally.

Interesting topic. I haven't heard of this song until now, but I listened it right now and it sounds very good. Looks like both of us started threads about things we are interested in and like.

Harry Lillis "Bing" Crosby Jr , not even on Christmas. That song is not very known (if anyone knows it at all) here in Romania. Probably due to different religions. I believe Romaina is ortordox but I am not sure.

Indeed, we are on Orthodox nation, but I don't think it's that much about religion as it it about culture, cultural impact and how things from the other side of the ocean get in this part of Europe.
