what material??? Material is money. I usually just call it gold. They produce money, but they're almost never worth it.

Material is money. I usually just call it gold. They produce money, but they're almost never worth it. Why though? Normally, material is something that takes priority. They just don’t pay back. A lv1 market costs 10 gold and 20 and gives you +3 gold per turn. So thats 4 turns until they turn a profit. A lv2 market costs 25 gold and 30 industry and gives you +3 gold per turn. 9 turns until you turn a profit. A lv3 costs 45 gold and 55 industry and gives you +3 gold per turn. 15 turns before you turn a profit. The money you spend right there and then is much more valuable than +3 or whatever money you get per turn. You could get far more value out of just building an extra lancer right there and then for your general to get to work. And it also costs industry, which are a plentiful resource later but tight early on when you really really need a ton of universities. And when you actually can build markets without hampering your other priorites, then you’re probably winning anyway and don’t really need the extra gold from the markets. Just give that to your allies so they can stand on their feet. Morocco in 1806 can build a lv1 market that’s actually worth it though.
