I managed to finish this a shade under 200 turns. The main strategy was rush to take Egypt as quickly as possible and set up a "fly trap" where you draw the spam to you and use artillery to kill the units in the water. Bribe/Lend Lease to help US/UK/Brazil in the Americas and then when you can afford it, move into Spain, through France to Berlin. The 200 turns is a little deceiving. It was more tedious than difficult. I felt like once I established control in Egypt around turn 30 or so, I had it under control. There were a few dicey moments in the Americas and I panicked a bit when I saw the Germans took most of England, but even then i was working my into France with the armored cars. There was heavy resistance in Europe, but not the typical heavy spam like in the Brazil conquest.
The biggest problem was money. It took forever to build up enough of a force to get to Paris and eventually take Berlin. I think its possible to get this down to like 120-130 turns for someone who better manages the economy. It may also be possible to get into Spain/Turkey earlier than I did.
At the beginning
Declare war on
- Cuba
- Egypt
- Canada
Bribe in
- Italy
- US
- Brazil a few turns in (although i'm not sure this did much)
Push Back
- Mexico at least once
- Iroquois as much as possible
- Possibly Spain as well, i wasn't able to
Main Points
Egypt.
I discovered doing the Brazil conquest, if you declare war on Egypt immediately, buy Italy in early, and support Libya you can do serious damage to Egypt if not take it out. This has benefits later in the game as it reduces or eliminates Egypt, which becomes strong after it takes most of North Africa. It also splits the spam, taking some pressure off of Europe. The Italians send a ship that annihilates the cities, the Libyians hold off Egyptian troops until your two units get there, and by the time you arrive you can take Egypt fairly quickly. This is also a better use of Libyan resources generally. Normally when they enter 7 turns before Egypt, they send their very few troops to the Balkans where at best they take a city for a few turns before being wiped out. Then Egypt enters and runs through unprotected Benghazi and Tripoli.
Once I settled in Egypt, the spam came heavy. I used the artillery princess to spam LA, spawned 3 artillery general and added a 4th later. I also spammed militia units to crowed the coast making it hard for them to get on shore. I never attacked with the militia in order to preserve hp and save money. At times I switched princess to Louise to deal with heavy spam and Generals. This sets up a nice advantage allowing you to take out strong units from a position of strength.
A few times they managed to take Benghazi and the city to its right, but I managed to get them back fairly quickly. The Libyans held up Tripoli for quite awhile until it eventually fell somewhere around turn 120. Austria and Bulgaria made inroads into Tunisia and Algeria, but surprisingly the Portuguese were able to push them back without much help. The jump into Turkey was tempting, but my attempts were nearly disastrous. A few points when the spam let up I tried to move some units over. As soon as I got in the water, they spammed HMGs nearly wiping out 3 generals. It wasn't until I started making progress in Europe that I was able to make the jump.
Balkans
Ignore them, no point.
North Africa
I managed to support allies take out the Germans in Africa with blast/Zeppelins and not spawning a militia. The two German generals attack Rabat, but it barely managed to hold up as the allies took the city and Portuguese generals helped take out the generals. When the Germans get wiped out, this area remained under ally control until later in game when the Austrians and Bulgarians sneaked in and took a few cities. Portugal also was able to take the Spanish City at the far west corner of North Africa.
North America.
The Washington/NewYork/Ottawa/Montreal/Boston corridor is everything in the Americas. The US/UK winning here is critical. If the US enters the war before Canada (as it is normally) they send their best units stationed there south and place generals elsewhere. The Brits do as well. When the Canadians enter they usually fairly quickly run through the these cities. By having the US enter at the same time (or after in other conquests) it gives you a healthy 2 on 1 with the US/UK generals taking on the Canadians. It will still get dicey and the cities will go back and forth, but eventually they manage to take it. Mexico and the Iriqouis will still do damage out west, but the delays help mitigate and buy time for the generals to win the NorthEast.
South America
Declaring war on Cuba immediately helps Brazil. There is enough of an American/Brit/French presence that can usually take them out quickly. This make it easier for Brazil to focus on Columbia, which usually punches above its weight. I bought Brazil in early, but I am not sure if this mattered. Definitely do not buy Peru in. They have an advantage coming in late if Bogota is unprotected. I kept on eye on South America as Brazil struggled with Columbia. Peru was incredibly frustrating. In a few my first attempts at the conquest, they had 6 or 7 fully healthy units with their general approaching an unguarded Mexican coast. It would have easily shaved off 50 turns at least. The next turn they get taken out by a Colombian militia at almost no health because they couldn't put someone in their capital to protect it even after i sent them 100 gold. Eventually Brazil won out and managed to meet US troops coming south into Mexico.
Iberia
It took awhile to build up enough of an economy to effectively get into Spain. The combination of building up in Egypt and supporting the South American allies ate up most of my money early on. It wasn't until around turn 40 that I spawned 2 infantry generals (Straus/Borivic) on LMGs to start to take out Spain. By this point Spain had all of Portugal and Germany was pretty much done with France and working its way through London. The good thing about the delay, most of the south eastern Spanish cities were eroded, and my generals took them easily. They managed to take a lightly guarded Madrid with a few blasts. I used the Calvary princess to spawn armored cars. I put Plummer and Stepvonic on these and the finished off Spain. When I took Barcelona and Zaragosa, the German generals in the UK reversed and came to Spain. They also got a healthy spam from the see (out of nowhere) with some ships that took corona and most of Portugal. I managed to take the cities back, but this added another 20 turns at least.
Western Europe
I managed to get to Paris around turn 100 without much resistance. After clearing the German spam, there was only light resistance. The Calvary generals and strauss pushed toward Berlin managing to take Hamburg, Cologne and Frankfurt. By this time I was out of medpacks, so I put the healing princess in Hamburg and allowed the generals to heal. The Soviets heavily reinforced Berlin and the US/UK/Brazil support only began to arrive in England. It took them forever to take back England, and at one point I had to send infantry troops in to help them keep their cities. Cologne and Frankfurt went back and forth between my troops and the Austrians for sometime. And Portuguese/Brazil went back and forth with the Austrians in Metz/ Dijon/Lyon. Borovic was able to take northern Italy with a few troops, stopping after getting Rome. Bulgaria held Southern Italy and I didn't have enough money to support a push further.
This stalemate stood until about turn 150 or so with me holding the Egyptian Front, the Front in Rome and the back and forth with Austria in Frankfurt and Cologne. Making it more difficult, I wasn't able to control any city with a military academy close enough to Berlin to use blasts to where it down. And they fortified it enough making it difficult to get artillery pieces close enough. At around turn 150, Brit and american tanks finally landed near hamburg provided enough back-up help to help me take Berlin. When Berlin fell, the spam on the Egyptian coast reversed course massively, with it all heading to Europe (This was actually pretty funny to see). This is when I managed to get into Turkey. The four Art generally generals cleaned up quickly. Once this happened it was over. The three fronts pushed towards each other. Germany and Austria fell quickly and i worked my way through the USSR.
