Why have game perceptions changed so much? Before Davout was the best non-IAP cav. general, Kutuzov a god and Victoria one of the best admirals, now everything has changed.

I started playing EW6 late, but I have read through many general forums trying to optimize generals.
I do not remember there ever being a sentiment that Davout is the best, Marat, Dabrowski, and Ney, were always the best non-IAPs. Are you referring to EW4?

Because we only had a limited understanding of the game back then. We didn’t see the potential in auras, we didn’t see the importance of damage reduction on navy, we thought crit skills did anything worth a darn, etc.
This isn’t that unusual though, it’s hard to make an objective comparison between things when a lot of things in this game are as opaque as it is. Heck, just check out my post on Paget. It’s all wrong.
