You have 2 choices: Head north or head south.
Northern route: (Only choose this if you are very daring and you are a brilliant tactician.) 1. Move your troops to the north and attack the northern most fort. Avoid using non-arty units against forts unless you can deal a death blow. 2. Use your troops to protect the arty and defeat anyone that tries to attack them. Do take note to keep them out of range of the enemy forts as much as possible. 3. It should take some time for you to destroy the fort. By Turn 5, it should have fallen and your allies are scripted to launch an offensive from Turn 5 onwards. Let them protect your flanks. The enemy should also be making their counterattack right now. 4. Take the stables ASAP to prevent the enemy's cav spam. Let your arty attack the city as much as possible unless they are being used to attack the stables. 5. Quickly capture the city.
Southern route: (Recommended) 1. March your troops southward. Attack the southern large fort using your arty. 2. If the enemy harasses you, use your troops to defeat them. Avoid the firing range of the forts as much as possible. 3. If you destroyed the fort right on Turn 5, prepare a wall of troops to block the enemy's southern gen. Turn your whole force on the enemy's battle group. Let your ally charge the city. 4. Destroy the small fort, occupy the Temple and attack the city from the south. Note: Your arty cannot readily cross the mountains. Be careful when deploying them.

Also, are you asking for the Normal or Challenge Campaigns? Do specify because we generally assume you mean the Normal Campaigns unless otherwise stated. Another thing: Do you know how to check the objectives for the Campaigns? In EW6: 1914, they are found by pressing the pause button. This pulls up a window which contains the objectives.

I didnt attack Liege directly, instead I went north and south to attack the Belgian flanks, as one of the cav generals do storm your southern flank if you dont do it to him first, and then I just held my ground and wiped out everything up there. In the end I focused on the forts, and then I was able to get Liege because of the AI bringing it to such low health. I think having Hotzendorf with me helped a lot, as he is a badass on the Krupp Kannon.

I actually like Hotzendorf a lot, especially when you boost that skill that makes him attack twice Ivanov's probably better, but I needed an artillery general to pass Liege, and he has gotten me all the way to the Battle Of The Bees. Also, do the bees come out and sting everyone at the end? I hope so, idunno, I havent finished my first attempt.

I didn't say he is bad , he is just outdated since you can change skills and after spending 5 textbook(1st change), you can make Ivanov do insane damage or you can give Beseler mobility (by replacing PF for JF). But hotzendorf isn't a bad purchase and is very good as starting general. No, the bees will not have an appearance in the battle of bees though your reinforcement will appear.

I understand that the first troops you get will immediately go down south to defeat that British general, but besides that, does everyone just stick to their island? Which band of reinforcements should be my priority, the one I should put my generals on? I've got Sheridian, Stoned Jackson, Ulysses, Farragut, and obviously Hotzendorf. Hotzendorf's moustache also looks epic

Also although Hotzendorf's skills are all amazing I would recommend if you do some auto conquest and sell Hotzendorf to get Beseler. Beseler have the exact skillset as Hotzendorf but with the addition of mountain fighting which allows him to have better mobility.
