Introduction
This is by far the hardest campaign in Union, and possibly the hardest in the entire game. You play as the Soviet Union starting in Ukraine. You then have to capture Minsk, Moscow, Yekaterinburg, and destroy 3(!) towers. The US and China are in the East trying to help, but they WILL NOT be helpful. The towers were so tough and took so much health from my generals that I was barely able to scrape by with a 2 star. Your units will be assaulted by towers every city you attack AND after China and the US fall quickly you will be swarmed. Thus this took me a few days to do. However I was finally able to get some sort of strategy. This is less of a guide and more of what I did.
Generals Used - Badigilo, Guderian, Govorov, Patton, Vatutin, Konev
Tech - Lvl 4 infantry, lvl 8 artillery, lvl 10 tank, lvl 6 air, lvl 4 missile, lvl 3 nuke, lvl 8 ion cannon. Supply don’t matter because the tower attacks the city and takes off 70+ damage anyways.
Wonders - All resource wonders. This is important.
Ion cannon target - Any target tower. I used all mine on the Chinese tower.
Now let’s begin!
The Beginning
I placed Badigilo on the rocket artillery, Guderian on the left super tank, Govorov on the field artillery, Patton on the right super tank, Vatutin on the heavy tank, and Konev on the field artillery. Build motorized infantry in Kiev every turn until you capture Minsk. Afterwards, just create nukes. As many nukes as you can. Now I sent all my generals and MI to capture Minsk and destroy the aliens there ASAP. The motorized infantry is there as cannon fodder. Make sure your troops take as less retaliation as possible. Capture Minsk with your motorized infantry. Afterwards, get your generals out of the range of the tower ASAP! After you do, you can stop defending Minsk.
I then sent my generals to the northern most city and destroyed the aliens there. Then I sent a motorized infantry or two near the oil rig (or village? I can’t remember) so when my troops near Moscow they get hit. THIS IS IMPORTANT. Destroy the UFO with your generals and capture Moscow. Send your MI into the village/oil field so they take all the tower hits. Afterwards, clear out aliens there and destroy the tower. DO NOT SPEND ANY NUKES ON THE MOSCOW TOWER!
The Middle
At this point, China and USA have been defeated and now the swarm of aliens are coming. Now this is where the time is of essence. I sent my two tank generals east to Yekaterinburg (Vatutin died during Moscow.) Capture it. It should have already been weakened due to USA nuke/missile fire. With your artillery, defend Moscow at all cost! If needed to however, it’s fine to abandon Moscow, as long as you are still able to keep the health of the troop there low and you can defend Minsk. This is what happened to me. Keep building your nukes (You need 5-6.)
The End
Now you are in good position. Before you lose Moscow or from Yekaterinburg send 3 nukes towards the Saratov tower and from Yekaterinburg send 2 or 3 nukes to the ion-weakened Chinese tower. They should be destroyed. That should be all! However if you lost Moscow save up for a nuke and paratroop. When you can send a nuke and para into Moscow to win. And finally we have expelled the aliens from our motherland.
Conclusion
All I can say is good luck. This takes a lot of skill and luck, something that is easily foiled. You can easily lose things and the swarm can seem demoralizing. The towers are painful. You need a lot of skill and know how to pass this. However after completing this relax as now you have completed the hardest campaign in the game and Union 9 is easier than 8! Good luck!
