It might just be my incompetence, but Union 9 was extremely hard for me. Easier than Union 8, but harder than Union 5. Much harder. In the end, I only had one artillery general and 2 turns/one star. However I'm still ehre to make a "guide" of some sorts. Union 9 is quite hard however is quite simple. As long as you know what you're doing you'll get through. Maybe do better than me. I don't know.
Generals Used - Badigilo, Guderian, Govorov, Patton, Vatutin, Konev
Tech - inf 4, artillery 8, tank 10, nuke 3, ion 8, air 6
Ion cannon target - Towers or cities - its up to you.
Now lets begin!
The Beginning
I placed Guderian on the super tank in Denver, Patton on the super tank below, and Vatutin on the super tank above. I then placed Konev on the rocket artilelry and Govorov on the field artilelry. Badigilo I placecd on the motorized infantry. Right off the bat I H-bomb the tower east of the Mississippi. Then I send Guderian, Govorov, and Konev east towards the two units and the tower. Destroy the alien carrier and the tower. It might take a few hits. I was lucky and most of my hits hit without retaliation. Then, I sent Vatutin and the armored car towards the same area, and Badigilo went deep into enemy lines. He will be disposable; the meat sheild for all the ion hits. If you have Goring he is better tasked for that as he is a Marshal. I stupidly sold Goring for Konev. Anyways, I then put Patton in Denver to defend.
On the second turn, I crossed the river and almost destroyed the tower. Konev however was to help Patton destroy the troops attacking Denver. Vatutin and the armored car were sent to the tower. Launch the anti-matter bomb towards the tower in Texas.
The Middle
After destroying the units capture the Texan city ASAP. Then destroy the Texas tower and send your troops into the south. Capture the Floridan before turn 9. Then get read to assault Washington. Build many nukes.
Now this is important. Because there are so many towers and you can't risk your troops being ripped to shreds send a disposable unit into the naval dock near Washington. Then the tower will only attack that. Use submarines as meat shields as you conqueror Washington. Once you do, nuke the Washington tower and try to destroy it ASAP. Govorov unfortunately got unlucky and got hit 3 times with the tower and died. While you do, conqueror New York. Then, defend for a while. After defending goes well, send your troops into Ottawa. Most of my generals died around here; only Konev survived. After capturing that send 2-3 nukes into Ottawa and finish off the tower there.
Send a nuke into Toronto and capture it. Then you should be fine for a while. Build 1-2 heavy tanks in Ottawa; you won't need them but they are here for a reason. Then this is the final stretch. The ocean troops will not move; it is up to you to kill them. I hope you built plenty of nukes; cause those are the only way to destroy them. Nuke the carriers and SMB the UFOs. The carriers that haven't died you SMB or MRB them.
The End
I sent Konev and the heavy tanks north towards the last city and tower in Quebec. Nuke the tower once or twice, and have Konev destroy it as the aliens there kill the heavy tank. After destroying the tower send Konev to kill the alien in the city. Capture it. Then you can send Konev to destroy costal units. Meanwhile your missiles should be ending the last of the aliens. Finally finish them off with missiles.
Conclusion
This is hard. Very hard. However I'm confident that if you were able to win Union 8 you can win Union 9; duh. Imo this is the second hardest alien mission. After completing this congratulate yourself! You have now won the game! Hurrah!
