The auto-battle is a joke and waste of time. It's broken and my full heavy tank against infantry cannot beat them and someone I lose more units which is a joke.

From what I know infantry are in the same leave as tanks so it's perfectly understandable that a tank can lose to a swarm of anti tank infantry also the tank is the most aggressive of all the unit types Btw the whole point of auto battle is to save time

Funny thing is that EW5 which used a fairly similar system to conquer/defend provinces was faaaaar more logical in its AI behaviour.

Funny thing is that EW5 which used a fairly similar system to conquer/defend provinces was faaaaar more logical in its AI behaviour. The AI there was largely passive, especially since there are a lot of chokepoints to hold and movements can easily cover the distance needed to threaten key strongholds. Only certain AI have a higher chance of turning aggressive. The greater the success of the "aggressive AI", the more it attacks. Here, the allied AI is fairly intelligent for the first 5-10 turns. Anything else and they'll do badly unless they have the economic backbone to compensate. For example, Polish 2nd Army Group can rapidly develop its needed economic backbone to cover any poor troop movements. Meanwhile, Polish 1st Army Group may have a large field army within the outskirts of a Slovakian Province with a city and a weaker garrison, but the Poles do not attack.

One of the absolute worst things about the EW5 conquest AI is that it (from what I can tell) knows when it’s army was juuuuuust strong enough to beat yours. I’ve been beaten so many times like that and there’s absolutely no way that a human can reasonably do the same. I suspect that the GoG3 AI would do something similar if it wasn’t possible to cheese by placing all your infantry in a corner. Just another reason I prefer conquest being a huge campaign map instead. Plus it helped that the end goal in EW5 was complete world conquest (so that you didn’t get blocked by your allies) and that battles on land and sea were mostly the same (so that the AI can’t get locked out of capturing cities by blocking it with their own navy)

I think I've discovered another interesting ai behaviour, West Italy just refused to occupy bordeux and just stood there for 7 turns, I think this is because that there's a large British army on the west coast of France and west Italy fearing the British army avoid occupying areas that the British can attack from. Another example of this is that my enemy refuse to attack my very weak barely defended Minsk I think this is because there are 3 friendly armies flanking the city so that if they attack Minsk and succeed they will be open to 3 armies ready to attack. I'm still unsure whether or not this is a real ai behaviour or if its just because of my luck but it's definitely pretty interesting and I encourage people to try it for themselves.

The AI does tend to hold its ground and throw Btoadcasts on a major army if it is surrounded. This results in that army being slowly encircled and the army doesn't do anything in response.
