I've found two different statements about Assault/Defense Art... 1. "Assault Art: 15% chance to deal maximum damage possible. Defense Art: 15% chance to suffer minimum damage possible". 2. "Assault Tactic: 20% to deal a maximum damage in your turn. Defense tactic: 10% to decrease the damage received to 1 in enemy's turn" Which one is correct? Im not sure, but whenever DA activates, I get 1 dmg, Yes, but there is a difference between 10% and 15% of probability of that happy moment

Clarifying question: do the Accurate, Strike and Bugle skills (deprive enemy evasion to arty, cav, inf) also apply in cities? i.e. do they also provide Siege Master?
Or does that depend on what sort of terrain the city is located in?
I ask because Sakurako just did 95 damage using a double armoured car, which is much higher than I expected from a 2-star cavalry general.

Here's a thought on the "increase minimum output by one" skills. Sure, the lowest number is not affected by multipliers, but if you lift the lowest number by one then you put new constraints on the random number generator when it rolls for damage. So your average damage ought to rise and possibly become more consistent and reproducible. Granted, this is a statistical effect and not an immediately obvious modifier, but it might be worth looking into.

Further to the above:
Taking the Russian light infantry as an example, they have a potential input into the damage formula of between 3 and 6. The computer rolls twice, averages, knocks down to the nearest integer, and feeds that number in. If it's the minimum, no multipliers are effective; if not, the output gets multiplied by 5, 6 or 7 before modifiers for items, health, etc. come into effect.
Constructing a table to determine the inputs gave a percentage chance of passing a 3 as not quite 19%. Chance of 4 was 43%, chance of 5 was 31%, chance of 6 was 6.3%
If you lift the minimum to 4, the chance of passing a 4 is 33%, chance of 5 is 55%, chance of 6 is 11%
So you have increased your random chance of putting a 5 into the damage formula by 20%. Of course the downside of that is that you now have a 33% chance of getting the minimum value.
I then constructed a table mimicking the effect of Formation (+1 maximum damage). The chance of getting a 3 into the damage formula became 12%, chance of 4 = 28%, chance of 5 = 36%, chance of 6 = 20%, chance of 7 = 4%
Based on a quick investigation on the effects on one unit, the rule seems to be:
+1 minimum skill: the chance of a minimum or maximum result rises (less save/load). +1 maximum skill: the chance of an intermediate result just above the mean rises, and the chance of a minimum or a maximum result decreases (better output, but your s/l might become tiresome).
I have constructed the 13 by 13 table for (average of 2 throws rounded down to the integer) and will be doing further experiments. It's worth noting that Assault Art fixes the probability of achieving the maximum result at 10% (or is it 15%?), and in that case the +1 max result for whatever unit (inf, cav, art, ship) is the better one to have if the general also has Assault Art. It's fascinating to see that if the probability of Assault Art is indeed 10%, then Infantry Tactics on a light infantryman offers a BETTER chance of achieving max output for given health and terrain etc.

Erich von Manstein, Do defence items only reduce received damage of AI attacks or also those of retaliation? Thanks for help.

If both trigger, does aa do 2 dmg? Well, Assault Art should trigger BEFORE Defence Art, allowing Defence Art to mitigate the gen's natural atk AND the effect of Assault Art.

Assault art will trigger before defense art, though only defense art's effect will be felt if both trigger. i.e if Lannes is fighting Kutuzov, and both Lannes' assault art and Kutuzov's defense art trigger, Kutuzov will take 1 damage due to defense art, nullifying assault art.

What is triggering fist won't change the result - it will be always only 1 DMG. If defense art triggers first, the maximum damage of this fight will be one - this is what assault art will give. Same result! Health, Evasion and Morale (and maybe Defense Art?) determine the maximum damage of your fight - this is what Assault Art gives you (very sad if it triggers at low health)
