Sending an engineer unit to build coastal fort on a small island can help a lot. Model works wonderfully on this. You can wreck many ships with it.

Just asking, what is the minimum tech required for this? Navy level 3? Either I had Navy lvl 2 and Air lvl 2 by the time I cleared 1942 Pacific War or I had Navy lvl 2 and Air lvl 3. Not sure if he helped much, but I had hired Guderian by this time. I have Nagumo bought (im not gonna get Yamashita like I did in WC4 cuz medals seem really finite in GOG3), and my tech is navy 2 air 1 oops... guess I gotta grind conquests and perfect clears then. Thanks

Is there a better guide for this mission? All my naval units get wiped out before I even get to approach near Kinkaid/Fletcher/Nimitz

I have the free gens, to Pacific 1942, Guderian, Leeb, and Kuribayashi. I have no intent of getting a navy gen (other than maybe Raeder) for this level. (Saving for Gerd von Rundstedt) Any help?

Id say just brute force it, if your only naval general is ozawa. (note this is gonna be a bad guide) first, be patient and use the free daily knight badges (or whatever they are called) to upgrade navy tech. Then in the mission, send model with the engineer to the western island (as stated earlier in this thread). use ozawa on the battleship, anyone with air stars on the carrier. Use all your forces to take out the eastern islands one by one, using a para infantry to take them as you go. use the infantry on the coastal gun in the south, and take out kinkaid. then take out the carrier and nimtz, then keep going and take out fletcher last (told you it was gonna be bad). for reinforcements get as many navy units as you can, prioritizing battleship and subs, then get torpedos with any money left over.

Damn it’s hard to play this when you only got nagumo and Ozawa

Well Griem helps on this mission.

Well Griem helps on this mission. True, but he's a bad investment in the long term. Better to save up medals for a gen who will actually make a difference in the endgame.

I guess if you had to waste your medals on a temporary gen, Griem is not a bad option. 195 medals for 3 air stars, a weak carpet bombing, and a strong aviation fuel.

Yeah, that's what I'm saying, he is not a bad price for a 1 mission general.

Damn it’s hard to play this when you only got nagumo and Ozawa Aim for lvl 3 or 4 Navy and Air. Use Model and any inf gen you have to command the two 3X inf and the 3X inf Reinforcement. Buy one 3X Torpedo Bomber, one sub, the 80 supply ship, the 3X inf and a 3X Fighters. (You need the air force and inf discounts.) The reinforcement ships and the 3X inf reinforcement should head west ASAP to secure the ports and combat Fletcher's escorts. This should help meet the second objective. Strafe the inf units on the coastal forts with Fighters. Bomb Fletcher so that he is paralysed by confusion. With your starting inf, capture the islands. One inf stays on the southern island on the eastern chain to use the coastal arty. The other will sail west.

Well Griem helps on this mission. There's no need for him. I still have lvl 2 navy and cleared the campaign again with only Model and Ozawa. If you're investing in a gen, go for the best first. Yamamoto and Kesselring are not impossible targets, especially for this game.
