Did it ever happen to you to find a song that managed to have a string impact on you? Today, I found this nice song (it will be linked at the end). However, it makes me sad for some reason, and I cannot really understand why. Perhaps it is the story and message itself. Having to carry an interior battle between the sense of duty and your feelings, which are clashing violently, as the song reveals to be the case for the character (for context: she is Youmu Konpaku, the half-human-half-phantom gardener and protector of Hakugyokurou, the domain of Yuyuko and place of the gateway to the Netherworld; the song itself is based on her theme music from the video game Touhou: Perfect Cherry Blossom, stage 5 boss fight against Youmu herself - interestingly enough, one of my favorite characters of the franchise too...) (perhaps I should talk once about how I got into Project Touhou). The idea that you know you cannot follow your feelings, because they would prevent you for following duty, is something sad, worth of the scenario that came straight out of an old classical opera. And knowing that even the simple concept of falling in love with someone, yet having to reject and deny this entire idea just because it would make you problems in fulfilling your duty is something sad, if not outright tragic. In the end, I guess I am finding this whole thing quite bittersweet. A nice song, with wonderful animation and a stunning voice, yet with a sad, maybe even tragic message that can hit close to home in some cases. I guess the whole purpose of music and poetry is to wake up feelings inside you through the lyrics and instrumental part, and in this case, it has been an absolute success. This could have been a simple, yet nice conclusion, had this strange feeling I am going through would still persist at a very intense level inside me, as if I am the one having to carry on the fight between mixed feelings. It may have also brough a bit of an old feeling of sadness I have felt only once in life, when I got rejected by someone I had a crush on many years ago. It is a similar heeling, that can no longer leave my mind, just like the protagonist of the song having to go through her struggle. Anyway, here is the song itself. Enjoy!

CountVonNumenor , I feel like music really has no impact on how someone feels, although it may be very nice to listen to. Also, I have a very different idea of aesthetically pleasing than you, obviously. I prefer a nice classical orchestra, or some thing more traditional. However, If music makes you feel a certain way, then good for you.

Sometimes I appreciate something less fine, however, with such songs like christmas carols, or CCP.
Edit: I mean CCM, that was a big mistake.

Gerd von Rundstedt , well, when it comes to music, my main things I like to listen to are rock and symphonic/classical music. Now that I also added these Japanese game soundtrack songs (and remixes), it is a bit different. Just a bit more colour based on some shifts that occurred inside me ever since the pandemic started. Just that this one song struck a bit too close to home, as the the saying. Plus, this thread also came as a way for me to vent some strong emotions I have left, and even now, one day later, I still feel a little odd. I have no idea what is going on with me, and perhaps a bit of info would bring some light into the whole confusion. Basically, I guess I need my own Hakurouken sword in order to cut through the confusion

Reading over it, feelings do not matter. Emotions are there to distract one from their duty and to go off to Aristophanes' Cloud - Cuckoo Land.

The hardest I'm aware of was from Ozzy Osbourne's "Suicide Solution", which seemed to actually trigger some fans to commit suicide. If you're talking emotionally, yes it can have an impact that way. I watch reactions to songs on youtube, specifically the songs Popular Monster and The Drug In Me Is Reimagined, and the first song has gone so far as to make people weep (because it's about depression and they can relate), but most are just blown away by the quality of the song. The second one is mostly like a classical ballad with a rock type ending, this one has made more people weep just because of how beautiful it is. That ones a masterpiece. So I think how hard it impacts someone is determined partly if they can relate to the song.

Luckily I am not on the point of suicide, and I hope u never will be, since life is too nice to be wasted like that. Actually, today, I am feeling much better, thanks to a talk with my father. The strong impact, or better said influence it had on me is still odd, and something I can still not really understand. However, I may have a theory about what happened: it might have triggered a sad memory I had. Given the fact that the lyrics are sad, about a love that cannot be fulfilled, it reminded me of some old events I went through years ago. And given my young age, the impact is even more powerful due to the sentimental confusion I am sometimes going through. On the other hand, it's also the fact this is a beautiful song. The voice, the animation, everything makes it have a bit of an influence. And the fact it is about one of my favourite characters, especially when you know who she is and more about the in-universe context, makes you see everything in a different way. My original post had a bit of explanation of what was going on, and I will also add a very good YouTube reply that explains a good part of what is going on in Junjo Arumeria (the Romaji version of the song's name) At least now, I can finally enjoy it for what it is - a beautiful song, even if said, with wonderful visuals and a bitter-sweet vibe of you actually start caring about it. One could say "But this is just some anime-looking thing, you weeb", but I do not think I got there. I might have just got a soft spot for this kind of stuff recently. Oh no....

Well, quite strongly. Nearly put myself down after listening to one.

I do struggle with depression but music keeps me grounded. I'm a little picky with my music though, I specifically like to find unique artists with quality music, great lyrics and a versatile voice...it's very hard to find that in the music world nowadays. Luckily I found Falling In Reverse in August and since my last post, a band called Jinjer. They both blow me away. They might not be everybody's cup of tea, though.
