I don't know how I can get to 22 kills in such little time when both the French and British units are tough as the steel of their artillery! Trying to down Tassigny in 11 is even harder! How do I do this? Should I pay for my first new general? Anti-armour troops all the way?

Just put transport troops on your artillery so they can keep up with the rest of your units. Putting Bock on artillery helps a lot too. Make use of the flak and grenadier special forces for anti-tank purposes. Send your artillery and half of your other forces to defeat Tassigny. Send the other half towards the mountain pass leading toward Arras. Take Arras and have your armies regroup. Gamelin is at the most northwest area, so you have to keep going to kill him and enough units to fulfill all the conditions. Only stop to heal if absolutely necessary. The entire Western Front 1939 campaign is entirely doable with starting generals and barely any tech. You don't need any other generals to complete the mission.

But by the time I took Arras and defeated Tassigny, my army is at half health. After which the French and the Brits starts to send hordes at me that are very tanky. It usually takes about 3 of my units to kill one of theirs. And soon most of units are dead. I usually reach about 17 and never had the chance to even see Gamelin. Is there something that I'm doing wrong?

Is there something that I'm doing wrong? I'm not sure to be honest. Maybe it's just tech levels. I did this with zero tech, but I can see why people struggle with the Allied counterattack.

Should I maybe go to the east and pick up units with Rommel and hopefully he stays alive long enough for me to get the objectives?

No use your money to spam infantry anti aircraft and anti tank special forces.

Also, do you have to complete both the axis and the allied campaign to unlock Eastern Front 1941? Or just one. Because otherwise I could complete the allied one, get the eastern front generals (if there are any) and come back.

You just to need to advance North with him.

No, you have to beat (although not Perfect clear) both Operation Mercury and Battle of Crete.

If you are really struggling here is a tip, do not pay attention to any secondary objectives focus solely on the main objective.

I use the air reinforcements to get the kill on very weak units that only need one shot from a fighter.
As said, transport on arty.
I splitted army to Arras and little bit into West to help out there.
