1806 Conquest Guide
From Wikipedia๏ผ
In 1806, Napoleon established the Kingdom of Holland in place of the Batavian Republic, appointing Louis as the new king. Napoleon had intended for Holland to be little more than a puppet state, but Louis was determined to be as independent as possible, and in fact became quite popular amongst his new people. Growing tired of his brother's wilfulness, Napoleon annexed Holland into the French Empire in 1810.
Starting๏ผ
Much like history, the Netherlands begins 1806 Conquest as a rump state. There are 4 facilities, a level 1 factory, a level 2 stable, a level 3 port (Rotterdam), and a level 6 city (Amsterdam). For military assets, there are a single formation heavy artillery, a single formation heavy cavalry, a frigate, and a small fort. Louis Bonaparte starts in Amsterdam on a triple guard with 110/8 rank and nobility for 275 total hit points. His relevant stats are 2 stars in infantry, 4 in trading, transport skill, and banner. He has the dragon banner (+2 attack). Try to have him flank your attacking forces during the conquest to take advantage of the banner. As a 2 star country, Netherlands can add 6 generals. I only have 4, Isabella, Sakurako, Lan, and Victoria, all maxed at 150/10. In addition to basic attack and move items, 2 propellers and the Napoleanic Code are useful additions, the armored carrier is a must. I start by putting Victoria on the frigate, Isabella on the artillery, and Sakurako on the cavalry.
The Conquest Strategy
Part I: The British Invasion, Rounds 1-5
Brother, the perfidious English continue to refuse to recognize the Revolution by supporting our enemies. I am preparing a great invasion to end the English menace once and for all. Intelligence has reported an English invasion fleet to the North. I am unable to send support now, you must repel the invaders! -Napolean to Louis, Spring 1806
Cotton leads an invasion force on a double guard cavalry, with a single light artillery and a double guards unit in support. Behind him is a strong naval contingent of Sidney on a battleship and two frigates. The navyโs objective is Denmark. They will only attack your forces if you get too close to them so itโs important to stay out of their way. Falsen, the Danish admiral will defeat them in his home waters but will not come to your aid. Use your frigate (Victoria) to hit Cotton in rounds 1 and 2 while moving artillery (Isabella) and cavalry (Lan) to the coast next to Louis. Get them all on ships as soon as possible and use your armored carrier to attack while flanking. Isabella and Victoria should hit from a distance. Donโt let them land in the now empty Netherlands. As you attack, move west towards England.
Part II: Invasion Britain, Rounds 5-10
Your Majesty. Congratulations on your victory at sea! We have received orders to begin our invasion of the Southern Coast of England. By concentrating our forces, we will end the British threat and secure our freedom and liberty. Do not waste time as rapid cooperation is needed.
- General Sebastiani to L. Bonaparte, Summer 1806
With a weak economy and few generals, seizing London is key to conquest success. It is the most valuable city (and has 3 good tavern generals (Mercer in round 9, Charles in round 22, and Rowland in Round 32). Your target is to take London before your French allies, if you donโt you can consider restarting the conquest.
You should land on the eastern coast of England, defended by a coastal cannon and Drummond on a double rocket. Use Isabella to target the cannon before Victoria is in range and your other generals superior mobility to hit the rocket before it can hit you.
Once they have been defeated, put Victoria in the Thames estuary to hit London while everyone else attacks from the West. Wellesly in London has leadership so you donโt need to worry about flanking. There is a heavy artillery to the North that also needs to be removed. Concentrate fire on Wellesley, he heals quickly in London.
France goes immediately after you so be careful not to defeat him without having a unit to move in. Whoever takes London will be vulnerable to fire from the large fortress two hexes East, so Isabella is the best candidate to occupy the city. If she has the Napoleanic Code, London will produce 140/20. Since your economy is so weak. Even a two rounds in London will make an enormous difference.
The French invasion force is strong; Sebastiani, Drouot, usually Lannes and sometimes Napolean. They will quickly clear the area around London once you take it. The stable in Leeds is your secondary objective as you will need it to make units for your tavern generals. Once you take London and Leeds, immediately move your forces back to the continent.
The French generals will complete the conquest of England for you. Napolean will head to Ireland if he can.
Part III: The War in Saxony Rounds 10-30
Brother, I delight in your success in seizing London and ending the British threat. After the conflict I will help you in its administration. Now Prussian and Russian troops are massing in Saxony in preparation of an invasion of the Rhine and our France. You must forthwith send all available troops to the battleground to secure our dynastyโs future! -Napolean to Louis, Autumn 1806
With your flank secured, you are now ready for the major battle. While your troops invade England, generally Netherlands remains secures. On occasion, Scharnhorst or Blucher will move into attack but generally not. Keep an eye on the Rhine in the first 10 rounds. If you do get threatened, build single formation line infantry to defend. Donโt use them to attack, as you are merely holding ground until your generals return. Ideally, you donโt need to buy any units and can instead save all of your meagre income. Once London falls, you will benefit from a doubling of your resources. Your target is to save enough to build a double Armored Car for Lan. Lanโs initial target is the tavern in Dresden with Wilhelm III R8, Lusignan R20, Yorck R30. Kleanau comes in R60 but its too late in the game to make a difference.
Your major expense will be making armored cars for your tavern generals Mercer, Wilhelm, Charles, and Yorck. Logistically, you will need to get them to the taverns as soon as possible. Leeds can be used in London and your own stable in the Netherlands for Dresden. Make the cars as soon as you can so you can place your generals as soon as possible. 1806 enemies produce mostly soft targets so the Armored Cars are the best unit for fighting through the spam. Build a triple light infantry for Lusignan; he has 3 stars infantry, 1 movement and mass fire but no cavalry skills.Bring Isabella, Sakurako, and J. Bonaparte back to support, either by heading south east from the Netherlands or east through France. France can get crowded with troops, so while Netherlands is a little longer it can be quicker. Your goal during the mid rounds is to continue to build your forces, conquering facilities isnโt that important.
Part IV: The Reunification of Spain
Your Majesty. Our King Ferdinand VII, long may he rule, has invaded Portugal. Our troops have become bogged down in the mountains, while Portuguese guerillas have inflicted great harm. I feel the offense will stall without any support. With the defeat of the British, the Portuguese coast is undefended. Without any assistance, I fear we will be forced to make peace.- Palafox to L. Bonaparte, Autumn 1806
After taking London, have Victoria head for Portugal. Double propellers will make a huge difference crossing the Bay of Biscay. To support Victoria, build a privateer and send Mercer on an Armored Car from London via ship. It will take him a long time to get there. Sometimes Spain can take Portugal with Victoriaโs help alone. Still, it is prudent to send a land unit to speed the conquest along. Be careful with Victoria around the coastal forts, even a red line fort can inflict 65 damage on her. The forts will target infantry two spots away before her, so they provide some help as cannon fodder. First bombard Porto until the Spanish take it. This can be done safely from sea. Once itโs occupied attack the stable below it. If the Spanish occupy Porto, the coastal fort will target them, making it safe for Victoria to bombard. Donโt attack the coastal fort with Victoria, no reason to beg for more damage. Once Mercer and the privateer arrive finish Portugal and take the port.
Part V: Dutch Rescue Danes
Copenhagen has fallen! The Swedish under General Dobeln assault our Kingdom. Without assistance we will be forced to declare for the coalition despite our extensive aid to the French cause. If you do not come soon, I will not be responsible for the consequences.- Admiral Falsen to Bonaparte๏ผ Spring 1807
Put Charles in London on an armored car from Leeds and send him to Sweden. With Siege he has particularly strong attacking cities. Send a frigate and two privateers with him to support. Sweden sends all of its troops south so conquering it is relatively easy. Karlskrona is the key facility as it will allow you to build ships to take the Baltic Sea. Once Sweden is won. Have Charles move East to Northern Russia.
Part VI: War in Warsaw
Brother, since the time of the Romans Gaul has been threatened by the Germans. Now is the time for France to rule supreme throughout Europe. I command you to join your forces with mine on the assault on Berlin and Vienna!- N. Bonaparte to J. Bonaparte, Spring 1807
Do as Joe Bonaparte did and ignore your brotherโs command to secure your own place in history. Alexander II sits in Warsaw, the final tavern you will use. After taking Saxony, move your core of Isabella, Sakurako, and Lan East to Warsaw. Alex II remains in Warsaw all game sitting on a tavern with Kosciuszko (R15), Kolowrat (R16) Bennigsen (R34) and Kutsaisov (R44). Once you have access to these generals victory is all but secured.
Part VII: Into Prussia
Your Majesty. Your great success in Saxony has secured the Southern border of the Confederation of the Rhine. Many thanks to you and your brilliant leadership! My territories are under a relentless assault by the Prussians. Please come to our aid!- Frederick to L. Bonaparte, Summmer 1807
As your generals move on to Warsaw, use L. Bonaparte and the Dresden tavern generals to assault Berlin. You will need to build some fort crackers to take out the large fortress. Once you take it, you can move L. Bonaparte to Berlin to trade in the market there. After Berlin falls, the rest of Prussia is easy. Move your fort crackers to take the large fortress in Estonia.
Part VIII: The Dutch Rule the World
Lodewijk, I understand this is your preferred term of address now. It was I who put you on your throne, never forget. My brave forces have been born the brunt of the allied assault while you have cowardly hid behind us. From your birth I have protected you, never realizing that it was a snake in the cradle. Be warned, I will not hesitate to marshal the full might of France should you cross me. Adieu!- N. Bonaparte to King Lodewijk the Great of the Netherlands, Fall 1807
Now that you can field an army of 10-15 generals the rest should be easy. Split your forces along the Saxon- Polish corridor to defeat Austria, and Russia. The tavern generals in Warsaw can be sent to invade Austria. Have your Isabella, Sakurako, and Lan take Minsk,Vilnius, Smolensk, Kaluga, and Kiev in that order.
Victoria and Mercer go to Morocco, Tunisia, and the Two Sicilies. Pay attention to invading allies as Victoria is effective as support but not able to seize any land facilities herself. Once Sicily falls, send Victoria up to the Black Sea.
About the same time as your continental generals Wilhelm, Yorke, Lusignan, Kollowrat and Kosciuszko are fininshing up in Debrecen, Isabella, Lan, Sakurako, and Victoria meet in Odessa.
