Warning: Black Diamond Conquest, not for the faint of heart.
The 1809 map is full of many strong generals and factories that make it a difficult conquest. The AI is aggressive; the farms are few. Up against these powerful foes, you start with tiny Switzerland. Your assets are meagre: Zurich-a level 4 city, a small fort, a single formation light artillery, and Bachman in a double guard cavalry. He has 2 cav stars, the eagle banner, and 3 chevrons. It's a challenge.
The standard strategy for small countries is to seize lightly defended facilities, build your economy, add generals, then take out generals and capitals. This strategy works this time as well, especially if you are willing to save and load when you steal an ally's facility; Rhine and France have available ones. But these conquests sometimes burn out from lack of food and require 80+ rounds to compete. A late round of tavern generals in enemy Britain and Russia (Picton, Elphinstone, Sacken, Yermolov) add rounds to the conquest.
But, if you have the right team and like tavern generals, there is an alternative path to a 60 round victory. All you need is a strong artillery general capable of 4 star movement. I used Sakuroko. The targets are the taverns in Belgrade and Minsk.
1. Rounds 1-10
Bachman steals the factory in Kahlrule and Dresden after Vecsey clears it. Sometimes taking Dresden turns Rhine black, so be careful. Dresden has 3 useful tavern generals so Bachman will hold it at all costs. He only moves 2, so keep him close. Build Zurich to level 6.
Add artillery general to your single light. Move down the Dalmatian coast towards the Serbian factory. Take the Serbian factory and Belgrade. Serbia's economy is weak so they can only build 1 or 2 units. Your allies will help but be careful they don't take the facilities.
2. Rounds 10-20
Bachman is under heavy attack. The AI generals usually attack twice before moving on. Take oppurtune chances to counter attack. You are saving money to buy a unit for your second HQ general, either infantry or artillery. If you can build up your 3 cities (Zurich, Dresden, Belgrade ) and 2 factories then you will have a strong enough economy. Instead of building expensive artillery to defend factories, send a single light infantry. Once you have your 2nd HQ general, work with Bachman to clear southern Germany.
Your light artillery general uses the bunkers in Austrian Hungary to move through enemy territory up towards Minsk. Take the village 4 hexes south. Kutozov will leave around round 20.
3. Rounds 20-30
Seize Minsk. Now the strategic end game can begin. Switzerland now has a base in Belgrade and Minsk as well. From these 3 bases we can finish the game. In addition to building units for your own generals, you can add Milicic, Wrede, Sacken, Blasius, Nenadovic, and Kleist.
A. Army Group England
Send Bachman and second artillery general(Isabella) via Netherlands to England. Take London and Southern Port before Elphinstone (R49) and Picton (R50) go online. French will begin invasion around this time, use their help but get London.
B. Army Group Spain
Build and send your best cavalry general (Lan) to Spain. Stuttgart, Prague, and Metz all have stables. Use guard cav. The extra damage vs. forts will be more useful. Take Madrid if possible. Circle Spain from Barcelona, Burgos, Portugal, to
Seville. Than go to Morocco.
C. Army Group Prussia
Add infantry general (Victoria) and Wrede in Dresden to double machine guns. Add Blasius to double guards. Take Berlin and move up the coast to Danzig, Riga, and Finland. Have MGs attack soft targets. Blasius has rifle, spy, and snare drum, he destroys forts.
D. Army Group South
Russian generals will try to break out into the Ottoman Empire. Bring Milicic and support East to stop them. Have Nenadovic seize Devrecen and Budapest. Use Nenadovic to trade in later rounds. Miliic's target is Odessa.
E. Army Group Russia
Add Sacken to infantry unit. Him and light artillery general take Vilnius, Kiev and eastern facilities before St. Petersburg. Alexander leaves around round 40, attack him in the field.
G. Vienna/ Poland
Generally Vienna falls to allies and Poland stands if you get Kutuzov around Minsk.
F. Economy
Balance resources between fronts. Move and attack first before building.
