1809 Austria offers a doable path to obtaining Victoria. On the first time with this straregy, I finished in 34 rounds with 8500 iron.
Austria enjoys almost the same geographical advantages as in 1798, easy access to most fronts. Ottoman, Poland, and Rhine border and France is just behind. Only Denmark and Sweden are distant.Austria starts with one of the best general teams in the game. Radetzky and Charles are best in class, Merveldt and Archduke J excellent. Vecsey, Johann, and Rosenberg servicable.
Our team is the Victoria run Princess All Stars: Lan, Isabella, and Sakuroko. We won't waste anytime and just start them on the best available units; Lan on the dbl light cav, Isa dbl heavy art, Sakuroko dbl light artillery.Adding your 3 now gives you 10 generals.
1809 has more generals than other conquests. As Austria, your main task is supporting other allied countries so that they in turn support you. Prussia in particular will unleah their powerful generals against any remaining foes. Your job is to make sure they don't get killed in the first 10 rounds.
Portugal, Russia, and England are all allies so luckily you have a short map. Your enemies are Rhineland, Netherlands, and France; Italy and Ottoman; Poland; Denmark and Sweden. Your strategy is:
1. Rhine offensive
Generals: Charles, Lan, Vecsey, Lan, Isabella
Your first step is to assemble the majority of your army to retake the territorries lost in the Rhineland. There is a strong defense of a fort, dbl heavy cav and light artillery on the South Danube before Munich. Have Lan get behind the dbl heavy cav, use Charles to flank from the front and Merveldt down to flank the fort. Have Vecsey attack the fort, Isabella the cavalry, Charles the cavalry, Merveldt the fort. Lan can finish the cavalry, light artillery, and then attack the fort. Bring both infantry next to Dresden.
In Round 2 Merveldt finishes off thr fort, flanks Dresden and attacks after Vecsey bombards. Infantry take Dresden. Have Lan get behind Munich, use Charles to flank, and then have Isabella bombard.
In Round 3 take Munich, Kahrlsule, and Stuttgart, beware the French armored car.
In Rounds 4 -6 take Frankfort and Brunswick, pay attention to aiding Prussian attacks. Clear the small fort in Luxemborg.
2. Dalmatian Coast
Generals: Radetzky, Archduke J, Sakurako
By round 2, move your militia and Radetzky next to the italian port. Have radetzky attack the privateer (2 hits is enough), let the militia take thd port and then assist Archduke J and Sakurako to destroy Marmont and the fort.
3. Poland
Generals: Johann
Move the cavalry and Brunn millitia north to Krakow. Avoid Heavily defended Lvov, the Russians will take it. Once you get Krakow, build a single light artillery. Use Johann to flank Sulkowski, but be careful with attacks. The Prussian generals should help.
4. The Netherlands and Normandy
Generals: Isabella and Lan
Head northwest into the Netherlands. Try to save Sidney and help him get the port. Attack J. Bonaparte and take Amsterdam. Flow down the Normandy coast. You want to clear the way for the British generals. You want them at full hp when they start attacking Paris. Wait for the British generals then use Lan to flank Napaloen while Isabella attacks.Take Paris.
5. The Italian Peninsula
Generals:Radetzky
Radetzky is one man army. After finishing Marmont, cross the Adriatic. Rome is defended by a single formation guard. It will take two hits. Take the factory north of Rome. Use single formation line infantry to box in and flank L. Bonaparte and Murat. Use 2 or 3 light artillery. Once the generals fall, complete the conquest of Naples.
6. Denmark and Sweden
Generals: Merveldt and Vecsey
Go north through Brunswick up the Danish peninsula. Use Vecsey to bombard forts and Copenhagen. Cross to Sweden. Have Merveldt clear Norway while Vecsey moves to take out the large fort and Dobeln. Prussia should support.
7. North Italy
Generals: Charles and Rosenberg (Wrede)
Charles and Rosenberg control the Rhineland until it is cleared than move against Milan, Zurich and Marseille. Add Wrede if wanted from Dresden in R26. Take the Genoese port. Build a privateer to take the French port.
8. Ottoman and Wallachia
Generals Archduke J and Sakurako (Milicic)
After defeating Marmont, move South along the coast towards Greece; capture the stable and factory before heading east to Uskup. Once you have Uskup, use Archduke J to take out Pasha before heading to Istanbul. Use Sakurako and spam to take remaining enemy facilities in Greece. If you retake Belgrade, you can add Milicic to a double light artillery for support. Try to get Archduke J to Istanbul near full strength and flank before attacking. Sakurako should try to draw fire from forts. The single artillery north of Debrecen can be used to open the path south from Russia to Istanbul for Benningsen. Build a light artillery and use the militia from Zagreb to take Athens- then send double grenadiers to attack Izmir. Even before Istanbul falls, you can send units across to take Bursa.
9. From Poland to Finland
Generals: Johann
Poland will be under heavy attack from Prussian and Russian generals. You have a small squad of Johann, a light cavalry, militia and a newly built light artillery in Krakow. Its not enough to seriously fight the powerful Polish generals. Instead, steal farms, flank, bombard, and take the facilities. You dont want an allied general resting in a city, make sure you get Warsaw and the stable. After Poland falls, send Johann north to take Finland. Shipping ordinary artillery and infantry from is faster then marching up the coast.
10. France, Spain, Africa
Generals: Isabella and Lan
Once Paris falls, race down to Lyon then Clermont and Bordeaux. Let the English deal with remaining French forces in Northern France. You can send single units to help. The Princesses head to Spain and hit the French from behind. Save Madrid. Lan heads directly South to Africa. Cross at the shortest possible distance. Lan marches across Africa. Isabella heads back Barcelona and Marseille. Charles and Vecsey should meet her in Marseille.
Economy:
When Radetzky arrives in Rome, trade your stockpiled iron to build up all your facilities including farms. As your generals conquest, take advantage of the many market towns to trade extra food. You have enough generals to do most of the heavy hitting, the most useful units are single formation line infantry that can flank and occupy facilities. Build a few single light artillery and keep them safe. Austria doesn't need much of a navy, maybe 5 privateers all game (2 in the Baltic Sea, 1 Adriatic, 2 in Genoa). Above all, move fast. The AIs economy also builds quickly so seize facilities quickly.
