I have two infantry generals now and I'm struggling to find them good skills for changing their useless ones (battle array/tunnel even ambush for lee) (ambush and mountain fighting for straubenberg) Intercept-Mountain Fighting change will fit for Straubenberg but that's it. Any advice on how to make them less useless?

IMo, keeping MF is good for mobility since the gen ignores the high movement cost for moving across mountains. Not as relevant for an inf gen, but it is still quite valuable because of this additional feature.
For Straußenburg, I switched PF instead for Pierce. It helps to deal with high Def enemies like cav troops.
For Lee, I think Inf Leader still benefits the gen himself, even if the aura does not stack for Lee or inf units around him. Against troops, his fighting ability and dmg dealt is increased, but against cities, either there is no change or his dmg dealt drops slightly.

Double terrain is indeed better than a single terrain and a less reliable skill that slightly improves survivability (Ambush) if it triggers often enough. Update: Ryshad Tathel, your thread reminded me to strengthen my Lee as well. I've reset his Tunnel. Offensive & mobility wise, MF and JF are appealing. To only improve his offensive capability, PF, Inf Leader, Pierce and maybe Tactic Master. For Survivability, Defense Formation looks appealing.

For Straussenburg I'd switch ambush to alert. Mountain allows him to move fast on HMGs so I'll probably keep that.
For Lee, I'd switch BA and tunnel to alert and plain/jungle.
I pick alert is because I find my infantry generals more likely to be exposed to ranged units.

Since infantry is really weak I don't think tactic master would fit it but pierce and defense formation really charms me.I'm going to upgrade my staubenberg when I'm done with Hipper/Hindenburg/Plummer.At least I'm happy to see the other people have decent infantry generals now...

Can't really say I appreciate Defense Formation that much. Investing in the general's defense isn't really an efficient choice in recent easytech games. I'm gonna use a simple case here: My new infantry has a base defense of 18, assume I put Lee the emperor on it, who grants 45% defense. It's defense is now 18*1.45=26, reducing 26/126=20.63% of the damage. Now we add a lvl 5 DF to him, which grants another 16%. His defense is now 26*1.16=30, reducing 30/130=23.08%. It only give Lee another 2.44% damage reduction maximum, assuming that Lee doesn't get pierced. Does that justify the cost of at least 10 textbooks?

Don't forget that it has aura effect,if you are trying to defend a spesific place it can really help a lot.You want to be aggresive with artillery that is why I think Hindenburg's defence formation is not that great. But for infantry, having a deffensive skill is more valuable I think.Nevertheless,I got your point and you may be right, I didn't experienced Hindenburg's performance much yet so IDK if it is a good skill or not

I wasn't writing to say infantry's defensive ability isn't important, otherwise I wouldn't have chosen alert. However, I believe investing in the unit defense, which DF does, has very limited improvement to the general's defensive ability. 2.44% only decreases 1 damage for every 41 damage taken, which isn't really that good a deal considering the cost of the textbooks you spend on Lee, the best non-IAP infantry general in the game. Aura looks tempting but if you look at how every individual is affected, which hardly reaches to around 3.6% (an emperor on a tank), it is not as good as it seems. Alert might not sound appealing to you as it only defends them from ranged units, but I think it at least can get better of your textbook's worth.

I agree with Erich von Manstein. DF is not a useful skill as it's effect is marginal. I swapped it out on Hindenburg.
There is not many good skills for Inf general apart from assault, inf commander, jungle and mountain (useful for units that don't have march such as HMG and guard grenadier).
I have tested level 5 pierce and inf master. Pierce increased damages by just over 3% and inf master just under 3%.
I swapped out ambush on Macmahon. I can not remember it triggered more than once in a single campaign. If it was triggered when attacked by a militia then it's totally wasted. The exception is Falkenhayn in historical battle of Verdun. In my first few attempts, his ambush always triggered 3/4 times within 2 turns (it's more like level 25).
Intercept is too target specific. Plain does not improve mobility (I leave it on Straußenburg as I can not find a good replacement).
My suggestion is not to invest too much on inf general as no matter what you do, they are still useless as compared to cav and art generals.

Guys, just sell Straussenberg for Boreovic and swap Lee's Battle Array for PF or TM. That's it.
