He is crap before regrouped because only 1 star Cavalry, and less stars movement than Golitsyn. And since he has 4 less stars in cav when he commands cav he does 20 less damage assuming each star adds 5 average like you have said before,and expensive because it cost 375*4 and diez*2 to get him to golitsyn's level while golitsyn only needs 815 for warhorse, and Jerome 1*3 to reach Berthier's trading level. so 1020 medals+815

Everybody will be strong after full regrouping. That is not limited to Berthier. He is definetely the most expensive and least worth it. I think he is terrible for the same reason that Dobeln stated above.
For 5,000 medals, you can get 5 GREAT tier 2 general whether they are cavalry or not. Why would you spend 5,000 on Berthier when he is barely better than Golitsyn.

Initially, Berthier is excrement. When Fully upgraded, he has an advantage on fully upgraded Golitsyn in light and heavy cavalry (no advantage for guards cav or armored cars). The major difference is, Berthier needs 4 cavalry trainers, 4 move trainers, and 2 +2 move items to get there, whereas Golitsyn needs 2 move trainers 1 +2 move items and War Horse. The difference being 4 cavalry trainers, 2 move trainers, and a saddle vs War Horse. 2 of the cheapest move trainer (Diez) adds up to 1080 medals, more than Golitsyn's war horse, which costs 815 with no general but can be bought at an early level (4th in French Campaign) at a shop you take anyway which you don't need to put much effort to move one of the 2 provided 3 star trade generals into

I feel that opinions to the 3 choices are pretty obvious. Maybe the question could be whether making Berthier a beast feasible.
Anyway, my answer is #2, obviously. I actually have him in one of my slots and trying to train him to 5 stars. But Agha has yet appeared so he is still working as an artillery general.

As Dobeln mentions, if we consider 3 specialties that matter, let's say cavalry, movement, and business, Berthier needs 4x Agha (375x4 = 1500) and 2x diez (540x2 = 1080) while Golytsin needs 3x Jerome (335x3 = 1005) and a snare drum (815). Berthier needs 2580 medals and Golytsin needs 1820 medals so that the two would be equal. So with the extra costs of 760 medals (2580-1820), what you get is that you don't need to manually switch Snare Drum in and out. #Note: If you do not give value to business skill the the price gap will be wider. |

His skills are very good but the cost doesn't make up so not worth buying (as long as you don't have 100,000 medals) imo

I grabbed him after I grabbed golitsyn. I must play to much because I get 100+ stars a day and I enjoy the game so I figure he will be a work in progress for a while.
Why is golitsyn the benchmark? If you want 2 cavalry generals isn't he considered the best choice? Can berthier be compared to the 2nd best non pay general? Or is it because of the same skills till geo that this is the go to comparison? Sorry to side track the poll.

If you just want to spend 800 like any normal person, Golitsyn is the best. |
