Generals used:
-Guderian, on heavy tank
-Böck,tank
-Model, inf
-Leeb, artillery
-Messe, tank (reinforcement #1)
Mission is easy, there's plenty of places and time to recover, good reinforcement spawns on turns 5 and 10, and there's good AI Manstein.
so don't think Guderian is a must or something, it's just me, I always go all in.
My tech at the time was 22201, spec forces rudimentary
1. Mission objectives
2. Cheeky little...scout xD. Just a quick look after which I've restarted. Advice from game said "push fast into hinterland" or something, but I'll take zero casualties, so na-ah, not going straight east.
3. Instead, I'll connect my units. Gaius Julius said march divided, fight united. Let's kill first city together, without wasting much health and see how it goes
4. That magic moment of sudden silence when artillery barrage stops but the charge is not yet..
5. If only... We'll have strong support north of us led by Manstein himself! If only there's a way to lure him straight south first, to help us...
6. Could not believe Maratsov left the city and the cover of his troops to attack our flank? Or is he already running to East? Well...
7. Well if he wasn't running away already, he's definitely running now. Listen to him! Music for our ears! Their surrounded troops lost all organisation.
8. Very soon it was obvious Messe will not be able to keep up. Not ideal, but not the end of the world. He'll mop up any surviving enemy, freeing others to keep the Blitz running.
9. Doomed. Left his troops to defend city while he runs away? Scared so bad he wasn't able to return the fire. Justice served.
10. After we got our first city, plan is more clear now. We'll move carefully along the river towards last objective city. First staying on the north bank, between two cities. Bomb one on the south bank but without stopping. Drive by. Untill soft enough so our rear units can enter.
If possible, our left flank will help Manstein to take city #3, one in the middle...But.. where is Govorov?
11. Our spy plane located Govorov just south of most eastern city - and there's a factory on the opposite side of the river which we can use to repair our tanks! Great news!
12. Message from Berlin confirms objective 1 is met and we seem to be almost half way to the next - and after only two days? Noice! Not bad for a "slow" approach, ya?
13. Manstein never even glanced our way, tf Erich!? Mindlessly plowing through the middle, not giving a single about exposed flanks and our slow arse
That russian land fort just waiting for him to enter that city?
14. Fortunately we have him covered. Carry on Erich, meet you at Govorov's!
15. Our 2 groups kinda naturally formed. Light blue group - Guderian, Leeb, Böck (+ pioneer to light up the way and builds land forts if needed)
is faster and stronger, so they'll zigzag a little, grabbing buildings while Model recover and stack up (anticipating heavy battle) and while Messe and co mop up
16.Model blunder: idea was to use him to soak up counters and as fortress/airport holder, he has advantage in buildings. 3 air stars, but - I was too keen to try out my new underdeveloped wiking so I stupidly twarted his mobility. AND wasted a turn to buff him...After battle I think I should have made all inf into pioneers and jaegers. Also should have just push on. Eh...
17. Dawn of the day 5 since we started and already 2 bonus objectives met!
18. Ok, ok....city right to the east of our starting position still under red boot, but. We're in full strength and right outside of it. Also there's help! We'll call in our second reinforcement in the south to help our new allies
19. Lights vs forts - we spent whole budget gearing up with special forces, no cash to spend on spy plane. Our single pioneer was building unnecessary land forts - we were just too fast for that. Should have used them to build radars. Now our tanks are going in blind.
20. Our allies, Manstein group (pink arrows) have their side under control. So a quick change of plans, we (blue arrows) will cross the river here where it is safe. Well...not safe safe, but at least not under Govorovs fire.
21. Meanwhile near Leningrad things are going slow.
-"Look at that show off Zhukov" our own artillery officers say. "Sitting there on the river, should be thought a lesson"
-"Let's dispatch few units to punch a hole in that joke of a defence line!" yells someone from the back.
"No..no time comrades, our mission objective is too far away. says Leeb. "We'll be back one day, with better gear, you'll see"
22. Day 9, Manstein's troops reunited at the factory. Taking a break. We're a step behind but Leeb called a day of too, let us heal up in ours too. Noone objects. Time enough.
23. Day 10, another reinforcement lands north of last Soviet city.
-"Better late than never I guess haha" Erich loughs still sitting in his traktor factory.
-"Shut up mate, don't you see we came over the North Pole?" they say.
-"Erich, chill.... everyone loves everyone, ja? Guess HQ is not that much in a hurry" says Guderian with a sigh
24. Where Govorov gone I hear you ask, right?
Well, we were like recovering mech units in city #3, silence before the storm and all that. Govorov, he got a little bit wounded by our big cannon, a little bit impatient I guess - and with a loud hoorah he charged! On Guderian! Who one shot him. We've were all so shocked noone took a single selfie. Whole thing after...meh. Still shocked and without any joy we're moping up in silence. What a sad end for a hero.
