A friend challenged me to try and perfect clear the first 4 theaters of the campaign with only the free generals, so I took his challenge. Here are the rules we laid out: 1. You cannot purchase any generals; only free generals are allowed - Western 1939: Cunningham, Leclerc, Messe, Bock
- Eastern 1941: Cunningham, Leclerc, Messe, Bock, Chuikov, Timoshenko, Model (Arnold, Ozawa are only allowed for star missions)
- Pacific 1942: Cunningham, Leclerc, Messe, Bock, Chuikov, Timoshenko, Model, Arnold, Ozawa (Alexander, Riccardi are only allowed for star missions)
- North African 1941 and Beyond: Cunningham, Leclerc, Messe, Bock, Chuikov, Timoshenko, Model, Arnold, Ozawa, Alexander, Riccardi
Note: The reason why Eastern 1941 Generals cannot be used in Western 1939 is because you get too many allied generals from unlocking the former. 2. You cannot go over the tech level limits- Western 1939: 2/2/2/1/1
- Eastern 1941: 3/3/3/2/2
- Pacific 1942: 4/4/4/3/3
- North African 1941: 5/5/5/4/4
- Western 1944: 6/6/6/5/5
- Pacific 1945: 6/6/6/6/6
3. You cannot go over the special force level limits- Western 1939: 1
- Eastern 1941: 2
- Pacific 1942: 3
- North African 1941: 4
- Western 1944: 5
- Pacific 1945: 6
4. You must perfect clear a level before moving onto another one; star missions may be skipped 5. You must perfect clear an entire theater, including star missions, before moving onto the next one 6. You cannot spend any real money
7. You cannot promote any generals nor special forces
8. You cannot have any generals equip any badges
So far, I have perfect cleared Western, Eastern, and Pacific. Here's proof that I did it!
EDIT 1: I've perfect cleared North Africa. Unfortunately, Kleist ruined my attempt at getting through North Africa without any of my tech being level 5. I'm pretty bummed that this happened on the second last mission. At least, I'm still on track to beat the challenge.
EDIT 2: Here are the pictures for Western Front 1944. Not a single tech at level 6!
Final EDIT: I've finally done it! The entirety of the campaign has been perfect cleared with just free generals! In addition, none of my tech levels are maxed out!

Now that I'm 3/4 of completing the challenge, I find that easytech really did a good job with the free generals in this game. Although, I think we should have gotten another free general, in addition to Model, for the axis when Eastern 1941 is unlocked. Nevertheless, all the gens are useful if you didn't buy any other gens:
Allies
- Cunningham: your navy gen with good stats and two good skills: organization and naval gun strike.
- Leclerc: your tank gen that gets demoted to a backup tank once you get Timoshenko. However, he's still useful as an infantry gen.
- Timoshenko: your tank gen who is just really good. Good stats and two good skills: tide of iron and armored assault. He's arguably the best free gen for the allies.
- Chuikov: your artillery gen who is also just really good. Good stats and two good skills: fire focus and artillery leader.
- Arnold: your air gen who doubles as a backup artillery. Has the best stat spread: having good air, artillery, and mobility. Aviation Fuel is a very situational skill, but can come in handy.
- Alexander: your jack of all trades. Best on artillery and tank, but can function nearly as well on infantry. Machinist is especially good when he's on a tank.
Axis Note: Since the axis missions are harder, I got really attached to these gens so I'm going to be more personal with them
- Messe: your 1st tank general who doubles as infantry. Camouflage makes him good on heavy tanks and armored assault gives him the potential for huge damage. One-rounded MacArthur on Philippines campaign and Eisenhower on Tunisian Campaign; destroyed all four stacks and their special forces. He was the mvp on those missions.
- Bock: your 2nd tank general who doubles as artillery. Leadership makes armored cars actually viable. Leadership is such a good skill as it allows you to heal your armor early in the game when you barely have enough economy to recruit an infantry. He is the second MacArthur slayer for me. Destroyed MacArthur in an armored car in Bataan and Corregidor.
- Model: your infantry gen who can function as a tank and air gen. Elastic Defense and Garrison were useful in Eastern Front, helping to hold back countless Soviet counterattacks in Stalingrad. Functions best as a paratrooper; jumped from island to island with him in many Pacific missions.
- Ozawa: your 1st navy gen with good stats and two good skills: organization and torpedo expert. Can also double as a 2nd air gen. He's best on a battleship, but can function on an aircraft carrier as well. Can do anything you want in Pacific; Destroy the enemy navy and provide naval support so your two or three infantry can capture that vital coastal city. Surprisingly good on a suicide tank because of organisation.
- Riccardi: your 2nd navy gen with good stats and two good skills: naval gun strike and destroy. Can't be an air gen and isn't as good as Ozawa, but can do Ozawa's job nearly as well. Couldn't have done New Guinea Campaign without him. Held a port for about 4 turns while surrounded and killed Nimitz and MacArthur in that mission. Surprisingly good on heavy artillery because of +2 movement.

I forgot to post this, but levels that I really struggled with are East Indies Campaign, Battle of Bataan, and Passing through Kokoda Track. Pacific 1942 really upped the difficulty. Listed in terms of least to most difficult:
3. Passing through Kokoda Track
The point I kept getting stuck on was capturing Port Moresby. No matter what I tried my forces would either be destroyed by MacArthur or they would fail to capture it in time. Terauchi kept occupying my cities and just sat in the city north of Port Moresby while my forces were being slaughtered. How I figured out the solution to this problem is funny. To spite Terauchi, I decided to bypass the city north of Port Moresby and let Terauchi take it himself. By doing this, I was able to move my forces fast enough to bypass the Allied counterattack from the northwest and south. I attacked Port Moresby from the north and finally managed to take it in time. Then, allied reinforcements arrived, so that wasn't fun. I quickly healed my units and retreated from the city because there was no way I could hold it. I retreated back to Terauchi's city, drawing the enemy reinforcements into attacking his forces. I regrouped my forces north of Port Moresby and launched my attack shortly before an unnamed Japanese Commander attacked from the east. I sacrificed almost all of my forces to take down the enemy occupying Port Moresby. The Japanese Commander was able to capture the city for me and won me the mission.
2. East Indies Campaign
I think Easytech messed up on this one. In Battle of Java Sea, your forces are in the east had to capture Surabaya before Jakarta. In this mission, your forces have to capture Jakarta first, which makes it hard to get a perfect clear by concentrating your forces. Thus, you'll have to split up your forces into two groups. I had a hard time trying to figure out how to allocate my forces to both groups, how to attack the cities, and building up a strong economy. My first attempt was a failure because I allocated too many forces to capture Makassar. Second attempt failed because I allocated too many forces to capture the city with Wavell. Third attempt, I failed to capture Makassar in time because I took too long to capture the airport south of Balikpapan. Fourth attempt, I failed to capture Jakarta in time because I took too long trying to capture the airport next to Wavell. Fifth attempt, my paratroopers didn't have enough health to survive against Wavell and capture Makassar. Sixth attempt, I finally figured out a solution. I took the airport north of Balikpapan and sent two paratroopers and an armored car to land north of Makassar. I left an infantry and tank to take and hold Balikpapan. I had my navy and the rest of army take the southwestern most airport on the starting island. Once Makassar was taken, I had 3 paratroopers drop into the airport next to Wavell. I purchased a tank in the airport and used fighters to eliminate the enemy on Jakarta. I dropped two of the paratroopers to capture the city. Yamashita, with the support of my navy defeated Wavell and captured the city he was on. I captured Surabaya with a two-prong assault from my forces in Jakarta and Makassar.
1. Battle of Bataan
See this.

In response to allegations of using IAPs, I was planning to post a picture of my purchase history as evidence, but I looked at the forum rules and I don't think I'm allowed to. We're not allowed to post personal information of any kind.

Ah it's ok Charles Huntziger . If you don't think anything is right, you needn't impose it on others. Now just stop that. You can admire a game. But that dosen't mean others too agree on it Also, HangryBird and eeeeef, don't take it seriously. I've already had some with that guy who has excellent debating skills

An update on the challenge: just perfect cleared North Africa on the axis side. To account for the new update, I'm not allowed to promote generals or special forces.

Good news and bad news: I have one more level to go for North African! Unfortunately, the evil man of Operation Vulcan, Kleist, has ruined my attempt at getting through the theater with level 3/4 tech. I had no problem killing Messe, but Kleist was unbeatable and the Italians would counterattack and destroy me. I ended up having to upgrade my infantry and armor tech to level 5 to beat the level.

Wait I have a question, seeing how tech live 55544 is for North Africa, does that means the North African campaign will be very difficult if my tech level is lower? Because I'm really struggling with it despite using non-free generals.
