First Impressions
The 1806 Conquest has a staggering 10 different 2 star countries to choose from. It’s a fun map for training rank and nobility for an entire 6 general team. Among the 2 star countries, each one offers unique advantages and disadvantages. Naples is one of the best.
The three criteria we are looking at for ideal starting countries are geography, starting generals and available units. The only nearby enemies are the island bound ‘Two’ Sicilies and weak Tunisia. Lightly defended Vienna and the underbelly of the Coalition assault are nearby. Joseph Bonaparte is 98/10 on double guards with Economic master, +2 defense flag, the beaver cap, 2 stars infantry and 4 stars trading. You start with a frigate, double light artillery, and double heavy horse, acceptable units for your starting generals.
The team I am working with are Kate, Sophia, Sakurako, Sophia, Lan, and Isabella. My team moves slow; everyone is carrying as many rank and nobility items as I have. Sophia gets a war horse and Isabella a horse artillery. I start with Kate on the frigate, Isabella on the light artillery, and Sakurako on the heavy cavalry.
Rounds 1-10: Economic Expansion
By the Grace of God and the constitutions, Emperor of France and King of Italy, we declare we recognize as King of Naples and of Sicily, our well beloved brother, Joseph Napolean.
- Napolean Bonaparte
I propose an ambitious program of reform and regeneration. Privileges will be abolished and all will benefit. We will have all the benefits of the Revolution with none of the excesses; Enlightened abolutism.
- Joseph Bonaparte
The powers of the Revolution grow stronger everyday while the oppressive old guard grows weaker. While my brother invades England we must attack the enemy position like a wildfire from every direction. Lead a group north to capture Vienna and another to Sicily to unite our country
- Joseph Bonaparte
Kate attacks and destroys all forces on Sicily. Stay out of range of the double heavy artillery until it gets on a boat. Lure the frigate to within range of your fort. Take free shots at Nunziante and his line infantry. Bring your single line infantry from Bari to take Palermo. If it looks too dangerous, build a privateer to help.
Take Isabella and Sakurako on light artillery and heavy horse up to Vienna. Don’t get too close to Radetzky. Take out the large fort with Isabella, using the bunker in front of it while Sakurako takes the stable and factory. Build a double heavy artillery for Sophia and an armored car for Lan. Once you take Vienna, build a triple guard for Victoria.
Have Joseph stay in Naples and build it, Bari and factory up. When I played, Joseph then went to attack Sicily. A better use would have been to move him north to Vienna to manage the economy.
Rounds 10-20: Liberate Germany, Invade Africa
The invasion of England goes badly and is now a struggle for life or death. Worse, the enemies of the Revolution, Prussia, Russia, Saxony, and the Austrians are mounting a furious invasion. We must stop the invasion and free the states of Germany from oppression. To fuel our victory, we must seize the farms of Africa. The next battle will determine the war!
- Joseph Bonaparte
Get some damage on August I in Dresden as soon as possible, Sophia with Siege Master is a good choice. Everyone else enters the fray and attacks enemy units. Go from Brunn to Prague to Dresden. Dresden has a tavern with Wilhelm in R8, Lusignan in R20, and Yorke in R30. Don’t let the enemy add generals. Use Victoria and Isabella to weaken strong units while Sakurako and Lan clean up the weak and weakened. Strong generals in the area like Radetzky, Blucher, Scharnhorst, Kutuzov and Bubna will try to win the war one by one. Flank, and then concentrate fire with all your generals.
This is the main battle of the war.
Once Sicily falls, you can rely on spam and the assistance of Agha and the French fleet to take Tunisia. Instead, send Kate to Portugal, with double propellers if you have them.
Rounds 20-30: Controlling Europe
The forces of the Coalition are on the run after your great victories in southern Germany. Now we must capture their capitals and force their kings to end this war. The Revolution will not be put out as long as it burns in our hearts!
- Joseph Bonaparte
Once you have captured Vienna and Saxony, the strategic position of the Blue team improves dramatically. With you in control of the borders, you will get a steady stream of help as long as you let them keep some farms. You control the center of the map and will push out from all sides to the corners.
From southern Germany, split your forces in three, with a squad going north west to occupied Amsterdam (Sak and Sophia), one going north to Berlin(tavern generals) and Sweden, and another East to Warsaw (Isabella, Lan, Victoria). The Dresden generals are all fun and useful, put Wilhelm on double guards as a meat shield, Lusignan with Massfire and 1 move star on double machine guns and Yorke on triple light infantry.
From Vienna, send troops due east to take Debrecen, Kishinev, and Odessa.
In Africa, send some spam out from Tunisia to capture Morocco. Spamming light cavalry from the stable in Tunisia is a little faster.
Against Portugal, Kate operates as mobile artillery, clearing cities for the Spanish troops. Spain goes before Portugal so any open facilities can be occupied by them. See where Spain is concentrating and help them. If the Spanish generals are alive, Spain will attack aggressively and you will just need to time your attacks so that Spain can clear and occupy. Once the generals die, they will only occupy empty facilities. Try to take the port near Lisbon or in Morocco to spam ships.
Rounds 30-50: Finishing the War
Our troops march victoriously across Europe yet still the enemy refuses to surrender. We must bring the war to London and the beaches of Ireland, from Smolensk to Odessa! The war will not be over until there is a new order of liberty and freedom for all man!
- Joseph Bonaparte
Your biggest challenge will be the speedy destruction of Great Britain. From Amsterdam, depart to the midlands for the factory at Liverpool and adjacent stable. Seize the factory first, then spam double heavy artillery to quickly control the surrounding area. Put them on ships to move quicker. Speed Kate up from Portugal. Britain spams lots of coastal forts, so have your artillery wipe them out first. You can’t flank Wellesly in London so you just need a steady artillery barrage. Your generals are better used speeding up the conquest on the perimeter.
If you get to Warsaw early enough, you can add Kosciuszko in R15 on double guards. Bring a double light artillery for Kollowrat before R16 and a double guard cavalry for Bennigsen in R34 if you want. Kollowrat and Kosciuszko take Plock and the large fort, once Bennigsen is available, everyone moves south towards Lvov, Kishinev, and Odessa. Forces coming east from Vienna provide additional support.
Your ‘A’ team of generals, Victoria, Lan, and Isabella, move from Warsaw to Minsk, Vilnius, the port, Smolensk, Kaluga, and Kiev.
Notes
Adding the above mentioned 6 tavern generals has a total cost of 25 medals.
For long conquests, resources are never much of an issue. Nevertheless, J. Bonaparte’s biggest skill is as a trader, yet Naples lacks a market. Getting him to the nearest one in Vienna would seem to help, but in a later run through with Bonaparte in Vienna and spam in N. Africa, I still won in 50 rounds so it was any faster, though it was easier.
It almost seems like 1806 is designed as a 6 general training mission. There are so many different 2 star countries to choose from!
