Although I like the 442nd, The Cossack is Far Superior on a general. *cough* MacArthur *cough* Vasilevsky, being a city defender, should have the 442nd, but in this instance he is used as an offensive gen, thus giving him the Cossack. Vasilevsky, should I call @vonmanstein77? I’m only at pacific ‘42 so why tag me?

I can't pass this. I can easily take the first 2 objectives as mentioned in the guide, but my strength gets sapped away by Rommel. Vatutin is almost gone, Timoshenko survives only with a quarter health, MacArthur and the pre assigned generals (Smith?) are dead. Leclerc alone isn't enough to push to Cherbourg and my allies take only 2 objectives. I have to get the third one.
Edit - I have Govorov too, who dies fighting with Rommel. It seems that I need a different strategy.

John Marston, all I can say is to follow the guide and to take it slow.

John Marston, all I can say is to follow the guide and to take it slow. Indeed. I brought my elites (Patton, Monty, MacArthur, Govorov, Chuikov and Tassingy/Arnold) to the fight and suffered many defeats, even with probably maxed out tech. This and the Italian campaigns, excluding the starred campaign, are the hardest to fight and win.

Leclerc alone isn't enough to push to Cherbourg and my allies take only 2 objectives. I have to get the third one. Edit - I have Govorov too, who dies fighting with Rommel. It seems that I need a different strategy. I tried using only your gens (substituting Vatutin for Monty) and I was able to beat it pretty easily. I used Monty (replacement for Vatutin) on heavy tank (kv-6), MacArthur on infantry (552nd regiment, then anti-tank troop), Govorov on heavy artillery (Katyusha), and Timoshenko on medium tank (KV-2). I landed MacArthur immediately and put the rest of my units in the body of water between the port and the river's mouth. I kept them far enough from the wiking so they would not be shot at by costal guns. Also, the destroyer+carrier went after the submarines. After wiping out the defenders, consolidate around the city and wait for rommel. My situation at turn 8: Notice that MacArthur has an Anti-tank troop (actually you can't see it) which helps a lot. Also, Artillery leader, Panzer Leader and Infantry leader all failed to activate so I did not just get extremely lucky. I also used 3 fighters from the reinforcements and 1 bomber+1 strategic bomber from the carrier on rommel after he ran in. Rommel killed Smith+another infantry on his turn, but he ran too far in front of his army and I killed him in a single turn (the fire is rommel's grave): The rest is pretty easy because I only lost smith and another infantry. The key is to kill Rommel immediately so he doesn't wreck your army.

Oh my gosh! Finally, I completed this mission! I was just 2 turns away from perfect clearing though. In GoG series it is always a good idea to find new ways and strategies if you are unsuccessful. I remember I thought in original GoG: "My God, it is just impossible to beat it. Period!". But then you try out this strategy, that strategy, combine different approaches, and then, all of a sudden, like a painter you find a suitable solution and create a masterpiece

That should help you in withstanding Rommel's counterattack. You need a heavy tank anti-tank specialist and Rokossovsky fits the bill compared to the survivalist Monty whom I used. If you are patient enough, play other modes and save until you have enough to upgrade land and air tech to lvl 6. This is the last hardest mission to pass in this campaign series.
