NOTE: This guide are for those who are following Erich von Manstein's guide for new players already in the late game.
Hello everyone! I recently have finished 1975 as Japan. Defeating the aliens in 1975 as Japan is very hard, especially without high level of technology and good generals. There was one attempt that made me through the Japanese islands until I got stuck at Mongolia and basically aliens are coming everywhere.
Why Japan?
Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Spain have the same problem. The AI is programmed to besiege those countries in the early rounds.
Thailand's only city, Bangkok, is very far from New Delhi and Chongqing, making it difficult to distribute your forces. Also, aliens will come to you after they defeated Australia. You have to relocate your forces to Chongqing if you want to try Thailand.
Japan, on another hand, has its only city, Osaka, within the range of an alien fortress. Osaka is 2 hexes away from Yokohama guarded by an alien. Later on, some aliens will come and get you. However, you can exploit this by employing Patton on the super tank and sending him to Osaka to make use of his Lvl 3 explosives and Lvl 4 street fighting to crack Yokohama. Govorov deployed on the field artillery will help crack the city. Konev will speed up the process. If you managed to capture Yokohama and Tokyo just in time and survive from the first wave of aliens, there is a chance that you will be given with a lenient amount of time to march to San Francisco and Chongqing before the aliens decide to besiege Tokyo. Also, Australia and PRC will most likely be spared. This is because the Aliens are programmed to smash countries in a certain order and Japan is supposed to be smashed a long time ago, so beware of aliens coming from South America.

STEPS
1. Early Game
1.1 Put Govorov on the level 6 field artillery and Patton on the super tank. March Govorov to the tile adjacent to Yokohama and march Patton towards Osaka. There are two battleships on the north. One of them will crack Yokohama and the other will bait the fortress to protect other units. Attack Yokohama. Attack first with the battleship, then Govorov, and finally Patton. There is a chance that on round 1, you will be able to capture Yokohama.
1.2 By round 2, you must have Patton capture Yokohama. Govorov will march forward towards Tokyo. You can attack the alien fortress using Govorov and hope that it will not retaliate. But if the fortress retaliates, restart the game. You will sacrifice the battleship to crack the fortress further. Attack Tokyo using Patton. Some aliens, but not in large numbers, will begin to swarm Patton.
1.3 Attack Tokyo using Govorov and Patton still on Yokohama. If necessary, deploy Konev/Bai C.X. on a rocket artillery to aid those two. By this time, the alien fortress will be on its half-health. By round 5-7, Tokyo will fall into your hands. If Patton and Govorov gets overwhelmed by aliens, restart the game.
1.4 Capture Sapporo using para/motorized infantries. Deploy Goring, Guderian, and Badoglio on rocket artilleries. Mass-produce field artilleries on Osaka and Tokyo to defend your home islands. All of your generals must survive, and none of the cities shall be taken back. If there are some aliens which will head towards Sapporo, produce some field artilleries there.
1.5 If you survive the first wave, you will have enough time to capture Asian cities to mass-produce rocket artilleries. I sent Guderian and an artillery general to Korea then to China, and Govorov (after regaining >50% of his health) and another artillery general to California. Capture Alaska using para-motorized infantry. Produce some nukes since aliens will not attack you that often during this time to speed up the process of capturing Shanghai, Chonqing, Khabarovsk, and Los Angeles/San Francisco. China and Australia will survive because of you. Ulan Bator and Changchun will definitely fall to the aliens. Brisbane has a chance of being taken, too. Hongkong and Taipei are vulnerable. Capture those cities should they fall.
2.Mid Game
You are in the midgame if you 1) have a large amount of rocket artilleries; 2) Ulan Bator, Bangkok, Manila, Khabarovsk and all Chinese cities under alien control have been captured; 3) all generals survived the first wave; and 4) you can constantly produce one nuke every one turn. Goring and Patton will still be in Japan along with some artilleries to defend against aliens from South America.
EURASIAN FRONT
2.1.1 I recommend going through India, Iran, Iraq, then Turkey. Don't focus on marching through Siberia; your forces will be stretched thin. Produce some rocket artillery from Beijing/Chongqing to capture Yekaterinburg.
2.1.2 When you stabilize the area around Turkey, you can nuke your way to Athens-Bucharest and Stalingrad-Kiev-Minsk-Moscow. Most likely the aliens are passive around those areas, but if they are active, prioritize nuking the city and wiping the threat at the same round. Guderian and Konev will have to part ways at this point, although you can choose to keep them together if you are willing to spend time on mass-producing rocket artilleries and smashing Cairo, Saudi Arabia and East African countries. Guderian will land on Greece and aid in the capture of Rome and Lyon. Konev will aid in Egypt, Sudan, and Ethiopia.
AMERICAN FRONT
2.2.1 Mass-produce rocket artilleries from Denver. Capture Washington. You have to have at least 3-4 nukes to bomb New York Twice and wipe any threats around it. Afterwards, liberate Canada and nuke Mexico City and capture it with para-motorized infantry from California. Send some units to Havana and nuke it once they can capture Havana.
2.2.2. Govorov and his partner artillery general will have to part ways. Artillery general will speed up the process of smashing the Colombian alien fortress and Bogota. Mass produce rocket artilleries from Havana and send it towards Bogota, and then to Fortaleza, and then to Rio de Janeiro. Govorov will land in A Coruna/Lisbon along with the artilleries accompanied by some battleships. Nuke both Portuguese cities and A Coruna and let your units have a D-Day in Iberian peninsula. Liberate Spain and prepare for the invasion of France. Send some para-motorized infantry to Dakar. If there is an alien stationed there, send some rocket artilleries.
JAPANESE DEFENSE FRONT
2.3.1 Aliens will come towards Tokyo, some towards Brisbane, some towards Midway. While Mexico City and Bogota are not liberated, produce artilleries in Japan and some in Midway. Nuke alien battleships and alien destroyers if they have high level/high damage resistance. If multiple alien destroyers swarm towards Tokyo, use Goring's air ability and Patton's urban fighting to defend.
2.3.2 If Brisbane/Midway falls, send some rocket artillery and air carriers to smash aliens; and if you have high navy tech, send some battleships if necessary.
3. END GAME
3.1 NUKE NUKE NUKE! At this time, aliens are scattered and passive, and you produce 2-3k gold per round. All European countries can be nuked using Minsk and Lyon. Rocket artilleries and motorized infantries will crack nearby cities, while nukes will take care
of the faraway cities.

NECESSARY
Level 11 Artillery or above: You need high levels of artillery tech to increase shield penetration to decrease Alien's damage absorption
Level 12 Panzer or above: Patton should crack Yokohama as soon as possible, therefore max tech panzer is necessary. By now, you have hoard large amounts of energy and technology resources (out-of-battle) to afford such tech.
Level 6 Airforce: PMI are great city crackers and guerilla fighters. The 8-radius is very necessary in endgame.
Level 2 Nuclear Bomb or above: I used Atomic and Hydrogen Bombs. Increasing the types of bomb will increase your storage of nuclear bombs (27 nuclear bombs if you have all three).
Level 5 Ballistic Missiles or above: SRBMs and MRBMs for nuking Shanghai, Havana, Lisbon and A Coruna.
Level 4 Supply and above: For healing your generals that got pounded by the aliens.
OTHER TECH UPGRADES
Level 8 Infantry: I see commandos not helpful against aliens, so I think Level 6 Airforce is much more helpful.
Level 6 Navy: Do not use navy to attack aliens if they have low tech. It will only give experience to the alien, making the alien more damage-resistant. Use navy on cracking undefended coastal cities instead.
Ion Cannon Laser: Do not invest too much yet on ion cannon laser, but a damage of 30 every 10 rounds will help you in cracking that distant level one city with a dying alien.
Level 11 Artillery or above: You need high levels of artillery tech to increase shield penetration to decrease Alien's damage absorption

By this time, you certainly have built oil wonders, and some steel and gold wonders to aid you in the Challenges. They are vital since you must produce Rocket Artilleries and Field Artilleries as fast as you can; and if aliens capture your only oil field in the beginning, you will still have +60 per round. You can also build ion cannon laser, but don't invest too much medals on it yet.
