I decided to make a series of guides on missions for budget generals (Lannes, Bagration, John, Hood). In these threads, I will make short, lazy guides for the missions and a review on the generals.
Missions
Lannes I: In this mission, you have to take out Rudolf, not the city. Don't head to the tier III city. I went to Jourdan's city, and then lured Rudolf out of the city. Lannes might die, but will some reinforcements, he will be able to do it.
Lannes II: You need to take out Phillip and Rudolf. Bernadotte will do a good job off taking out Phillip, if he doesn't take out Phillip, send a spare rifleman to do it. Lannes will die around Turn 5 without support. Take out the Hussars west of Rudolf and Lannes will be saved. But one problem Lannes is bad at defense. So try toke take out the entire Austrian force near Lannes with spare troops. Rudolf won't be lured out like last time. Your artillery unit can kill off the city HP and Rudolf will take more damage.
Lannes III: Attack the objective with your ship. It will die around Turn 3, but this will buy you time as the grenadier sitting in the objective will move. Have Lannes and your other troops march north and go through the mountains near the coast. Then, attack the objective. Don't worry, Lannes will survive long enough.
Lannes IV: The first Lannes mission where I needed a general to complete. Both Ali and his city are the objectives, but when you kill Ali, an Egyptian heavy cavalry with a general will spawn. I land Lannes right away. Try to use your ships to bombard the objective. My grenadier Massena was at 1/4 HP when I retried the mission, so be careful. Lannes will be crucial as he will be very strong if you don't already have a general. Occupy the port if possible and bombard. Try to keep Ali in the city as the aforementioned general will spawn if Ali dies. And try to build troops as your population will be a problem, so no use saving.
Lannes V: Simple, rush through gaps in the British line and go fast enough that Wellesley won't be a problem. You have good units, but the British do have good generals, so beware.
Lannes VI: Five units vs. Gneisenau, Blucher, Scharnhorst and Level 6 Berlin (the objectives). Actually, Scharnhorst may not be an objective. But he never moves from Berlin, so I count him as one. Use all of your good generals in an assault on Gneisenau's city. You are flush with cash, so spawn troops and take advantage of the confusion to kill Blucher and start an advance on Berlin. Take Berlin and boom.
Review:
The price of 842 when maxed and the max title of King is pretty good. Viscount *** and Captain at the start is trash however. All of his skills are good, but maybe Tunnel is 4/5. So he is one of the best skill-wise. He also will have pretty good stats when maxed. Nothing much to say.
Out of the Lannes/Garibaldi/Suvorov/Bismarck ranking you might of seen in General Kenobi 's thread, I favor Lannes and Garibaldi the most. If you want to kill cavalry for a good price, Lannes, but if you want to gamble for 2x the damage, Garibaldi. Worthy of the ranking I give of 5 or 6. Skill-wise, better than old Washington, at number 3 or 4.
Conclusion:
Lannes' missions are pretty easy, aside form IV and VI. He is one of the best and might be a second Washington, fit for as juljas says, "running around the map killing units", or something in those lines. And remember Lannes I? I retried it and my Massena (albeit not maxed, sadly) did 82 damage to a Hussar with Line Infantry, and Lannes did 72 on another Hussar, with the same unit! And that Lannes was Viscount while my Massena was Prince with a Ferguson Rifle.
