The French general, worst 4 tier gen, pretty expensive and with bad skills. But he doesn't deserve this. de Gaulle in ET is known for his incline towards Artillery, in real life, he is known for developping the armored tanks of the French Army, serving in the Daladier cabinet and having the nickname "Colonel Motors" which translates to colonel motor. He developped ideas very similar to the Blitzkrieg tactics against Germany. He participated to the Battle of France as division commander and the only apte one at that (looking at you Gamelin). He thought of the Breton redoubt (resistance of the french in Britanny) and lead the Free French. He was held in great regards Eisenhower and lead French troops during D-Day. ET has done him dirty and he should be a decent tank gen

If we are talking about developing the tank designs, I can't argue with you, but that doesn't make him a good tank general. Many historians consider him incompetent, and I agree. He had no strategic or tactical ability, merely inspirational value, much like Eisenhower. I agree that he did not do as poorly as Gamelin in the Battle of France, but that doesn't mean he was good. The Breton Redoubt was a laughable plan, as much so as Operation Habakkuk. Yes he led the Free French, but they really didn't accomplish much anything. Yes, they took Syria, but what else? Even that was with majority British troops. ET has made him too good IMO. I see no reason to think him better than Petain.

The only reason France had the tanks it had was because de Gaulle didn't let up and continued pushing for more armored brigades. The Free French did plenty of stuff, liberated parts of African France, helped immensly with Opertaion Torch in Algeria and with D-Day and the liberation of Paris. He wasn't as incompetent as Weygand, Muselier, Darlan and Juin. The Breton Redoubt was a plan of resistance which coul work had the germans not gone so deep into French territory so quickly which forced the rejection of the plan. I agree, de Gaulle wasn't the best general but he deserves better than the bad general he is now.

He was pushing for more tanks as well, but nobody paid attention to him. I will give you that the free French were minorly important when they had already landed in France, but not before that. In Operation Torch, It was Vichy that made it easy to land, because Germany and Italy had violated their neutrality. Weygand and Darlan both cannot be described as incompetent, and Juin did not even participate in the Battle of France. Also, you just stated that the Breton Redoubt didn't work! You said it could have worked. You are Canadian, right? What if I told you that the Dieppe Raid "could work." It just didn't.

You said it could have worked. You are Canadian, right? What if I told you that the Dieppe Raid "could work." It just didn't. The Breton Redoubt could work, The Free French were important in Operation Torch because they were kinda the street fighters in Algiers, Oran and Constatine. They fought of and took control of those cities themselves from Vichy. Your idea that Vichy made it easy to land is false because it would have made it easy to land in France too or help in clandestine operations, both of whih they fought viciously to the end. The Dieppe raid didn't work because of several factors, most important of which was a disconnected Churchill painting the idea of a landing in France to fond the Enigma machines, not knowing the real conditions of the port
