I am currently trying to break through Union 5. Capturing the Japanese cities is very easy, especially having the Patton, Konev, Custom General, Govorov, Badoglio, and Goring. But Patton was destroyed, the southernmost Japanese city cannot be captured on time, and there will be some aliens out of reach, and also it will be costly to destroy the alien fortress. I only managed to finished in 19 turns and get two bronze stars. More details onto this guide soon when I have enough medals for Yamamoto or I get a three star.
Second attempt: Took more care of Patton, reached the whole Japanese islands in 14 turns, but I did not look at the alien approaching Midway. Americans did not paratroop. This means that even without a good navy general, this can be finished.

Konev/Vasilevsky: You have to deploy him in the commando. If Konev, maybe to a field artillery if you can?
Govorov
One/two out of the following artillery generals since you must mass-produce field artillery.
Badoglio: A general we used to hire as a beginner, but he's even less relevant nowadays.
Bai C.X.
Custom General (HP 170, 3 stars each in movement and artillery, with Explosives 2, Art. Barrage 2, and Plain 3)
NAVY
Goring/Sansonetti: Deploy him on the carrier. He must help Patton on the early stage and then kill the aliens out of reach from the artillery.
Yamamoto/Ozawa: I defeated this level without navy generals, only with high navy tech, but you have a decent fleet of battleships so you can also try out if you have one of them to crack the fortresses?

Lvl 12 Panzer: Patton must capture the next city within three turns.
Lvl 12 Artillery: You need to mass-produce them to defend and attack.
Lvl 9 Navy and above: You have three battleships and one destroyer. Use them to help Patton destroy the fortress. Since they are high in HP, occupying the Lvl 3 Port with battleships may lure the fortress away from Patton.
Lvl 7 Air force (PMI, 8-range): You have to bombard the last fortress using the massive income you generate and Patton
Lvl 12 Infantry: I am a little bit curious if the level is harder if our Konev/Vasilevsky commando has less ATK or shield penetration at Lvl 8-11
Other tech
Lvl 8 Ballistic Missile: Seriously, please watch an eye on all aliens. Some might go towards the East Pacific and occupy some cities there.

As usual, I recommend getting all nine resource wonders. It is better than teaching your custom generals Industrial Expert and Economic Expert. Also, you have to consume lots of oil from moving all the mechanic units basically without an oil field for the early game.
Guide

- Deploy Goring on the carrier, Patton on the super tank, and Konev/Vasilevsky on the commando.Start attacking the city with your entire army and navy. Bait the fortress on attacking the battleships and destroyers instead of Patton and Konev.
- Patton must have occupy the city by turn 3. I recommend occupying the Lvl3 Port to lure the alien fortress. Destroy the fortress using Patton and the navy.
- Mass-produce field artillery and deploy all three artillery generals from your roster. I used Govorov, Custom General, and Badoglio. You may promote Govorov since he is so fragile.
- Attack and occupy Tokyo. Patton should live all throughout. Patton should retreat if he has only around 50 health to heal in the city while waiting. Produce field artillery to defend Tokyo. Don't let Eisenhower occupy Tokyo! Goring must bombard any alien near him.
- Attack Yokohama. It is okay if Eisenhower managed to capture it since there are so many aliens attacking you and leaving the city vacant. Eisenhower is so powerful because of his Lvl 4 Explosives.
- Occupy Osaka and secure it by turn 9/10. Don't let Eisenhower occupy this one. In the game, he served as a fodder against the alien fortress and helped in cracking the last city. Patton must march onto Osaka and bombard multiple times the alien fortress, then say thanks to Eisenhower and occupy the last city. Kill the remaining aliens and occupy the oil rigs before turn 17.
