Must haves:
Jungle- overall best terrain skill, gives mobility, damage reduction, attack power and it can be used by a tank thus this terrain skill has the most potential.
Cav commander- a Ludendorff with cav commander has 5 skills. His friend Jackson has 6 skills cause Ludendorff is such a good guy. Jackson thanks him by being better than Ludendorff. Moral of the story: Jackson got to where he is now, thanks to Ludendorff.(Nobody is necessarily better than the other IRL, so don't hate the player, hate the game.)
Precision strike- precision strike can't really make a bad cav general good, but every good cav general needs precision strike.
Tactics master- this plus victory rush can get out of hand.
Surprise attack- cav has good damage and the highest mobility on their tiers, and when combined with terrain skills like, forest, mountain or desert, they can output surprising damage.
Plain- when combined with engineer from infantry soldiers, this skill has better overall damage reduction due to targeted preparations but loses out on mobility.
Good to haves:
Defense formations- while not required, it must be known that cav has the highest defenses on their tiers so if defense formation must be used, it must be on a cav general who is sure to keep up with other cav.
Cavalry expert- while not as large as artillery's boost, this skill when combined with Browning pistol plus other skills can slightly increase damage output.
Edge- @lvl 5 only deals 15 additional damage to infantry when generals with this skill are sitting on tanks, but has really big multipliers on generals sitting on armored cars, or some other cav troops that use rifles or cold weapons.
Pierce- ignore defense thus deal more damage. Should be really good on offensive oriented cav.
Novelty:
Mountain- not as good as jungle and plains, mostly because vehicles can't travel here. Combined with jungle and surprise attack, cossacks, sipahi guard cav and guard cavalry can justify their coexistence with tanks and armored cars, except for hussars and breastplate cav though, cause they are like weaker versions of both.
Desert- not as flexible as the other terrain but it has it's niche.
Inspiration- pretty good when combined with tactics master on other troop types, but victory rush, inspiration and tactics master overlap too much, not to mention cavalry has so many good skills that are necessary that inspiration just becomes an alternative.
Rage and cavalry master- while cavalry has good damage scaling for critical strikes and has victory rush that allows more attacks than average, critical strike chance is just too small for it to get the job done.
Station- land fort could be useful for artillery since they have range, but on a melee unit like cav, Urban terrain is too far apart for station to become meta.
