I made a small experiment with Isabela and Scharnhorst. I shot 100 times (50 with snare drum and 50 without snare drum) at the same French infantry target, which is located on a terrain that has -10% artillery evasion. Isabela and Scharnhorst both had full health. I don't know if it matters, but Isabela has 86/6 rank/nobility, whereas Scharnhorst had 74/3. Regarding attack skills Scharnhorst has accurate, Isabela has ballistics in addition to accurate. The results of 50 shots with snare drum: Scharnhorst: Average:51.46 (max. Damage:65, min. damage:32) Isabela: Average:50.4 (max. damage:63, min. damage: 40)
The results of 50 shots without snare drum: Scharnhorst: Average:50.6 (max. Damage:67, min. damage:35) Isabela: Average:49.82 (max. damage:65, min. damage: 34)
According to my trials; scharnhorst did better damage than Isabela both with and without snare drum. The results seem to show that ballistics does not have any positive effect at all.

Do they both have the same number of artillery stars?

Do they both have the same number of artillery stars? Yes, they both have 5 stars in artillery.

That's interesting. At least Isabela still has geography.

The is different between the damage of the two is very small and very likely that it can occur by chance (e.g. if you conduct 10 rounds of tossing a fair coin 100 times, sometimes you will get more than 50 head and other time less). Statisticians call this difference between Isabela's and Scharnhorst's damage "insignificant." So basically, they do the same damage. This is consistent with Erich von Manstein 's explanaion in the other thread that "Ballistics" skill add no damage.

Well only when a general with only 1 star and on French Guards/Prussian Light Infantry&Heavy Cavalry/Austrian Heavy Cavalry/Turkish Siege Artillery, it would work!

50 times are not enough. If you try more than 200 times, you will find the average is almost the same.

good research but since Isabela is free, I would use her and not spend money on getting Le General Scharnhorst! , maybe you could regroup scharnhorst into Isabela? You would definetly make Isabela increasingly stronger by regrouping a artillery trainer, and if you're going to save money I would recommend using only royal ladies and maybe a art and cav generals again I recommend for this, Lasalle and maybe Drummond
