Everyone knows that World Conquer 4 is basically impossible without generals. Most players (like me) would get stuck at cold war or allies 11 without good generals. Their are many guide on which generals are the best but none on how to choose them. So I guess I'm going to make it.
1. Stars do not make a general.
The amount stars a general has is usually irreverent to whenever it is good or not. take for example, Leeb and Alexander. They both have the same amount of stars however Leeb is chosen 999 times every 100 times an option like this is present to a player. But why is Leeb better than Alexander. One reason is that alexander is 1775 medals-400 medals more than Leeb. And Alex doesn't even have good skills. Leeb has nearly all of the important skills only missing accuracy but his extra skill slot can be used for that. Alexander however, has none of these. He has artillery barrage (we all know the infamy of half health damage boosts), crossfire (for artillery?), Raider (for a max 3 star infantry?!?!). Yup even though they are practically the same Leeb beat Alexander by a mile.
2. Skills
Most new players don't understand the power of skills (well I didn't) Basically skills are thing that usually make your general better. Not all skills are good though. The most infamous example of this is the Elastic Defense. This skill has ruined a lot of generals that would otherwise be good. For example kuribayashi and Mannerheim would be much better generals if it weren't for Elastic defense. Don't buy general's with bad skills however it can still be countered if their are enough good things about them(cost, skills, stars). For example Manstein and Vatuin has tide of iron, a terrible skill but they are still considered great generals because of their other great skills and 6 star in tanks.
3. Potential.
Sometimes you see a general with low skills or stars. Take for example Crerar. He is oriented towards infantry but some people still use him. Why? Because if your max out Crerar's crowd tactics he will do nearly 30 extra damage to surrounding allies, making them do as much damage as a lot level general, thus elevating him from trash to decent. Always be aware of a generals full potential
4. Cost
Some generals have good skills, stars and terrible cost. take Kesselring. He is a semidecent infantry-air hybrid, but he costs 2125 medals. 2125. let that sink in. for 2125 medals you could almost buy Dowding and Arnold. You could buy discount Nimitz. discount Rommel. you could almost by a Konev Leeb combo. Price is an important thing to consider when you are in early game.
With these factors the amount of viable generals becomes very limited. Their are about 10-13 viable generals, depending on your perspective so luckily you don't have to worry to much about what generals to use and what to not use
