So I'm sitting on 1177 medals that will only grow bigger, and am stuck at Balkan Lion's first mission. I know I'm going to get Beatty or Hipper, just need to know which one. I want to plan ahead so can you advise me on this predicament (I know Hipper is better than Beatty but I want to save medals for another general/admiral)? Also, can you tell me who to get after the admirals? (Gerd von Rundstedt don't you dare say Lee)
I have Straussenburg, Beseler, Moltke, McClellan, Macmahon, Ivanov, and MacArthur decently upgraded, I have every free general until de Robeck, and have Falkenhausen as a spare general.

Holy Crud do you not have Jackson? IMO, get Hipper. Then decide which unit you want your team to emphasize. If inf, get Lee, If cav, get Joe Johnston, if Arty, get Hindenberg. |

Honestly, Its up to you. But I bought Beatty first, as he was cheaper at the time. Both are viable options. I'd say save up for Hindenburg/ hipper or beatty (Whichever you bought first) and then Plumer.
But for the First mission of the Bulgarian campaign, I did it without hipper or beatty, only with land gens equipped with healing items, and high tech.
