1812 Conquest: Russia
Russia offers a great conquest run for new and old players alike with a clear path time a circa 40 round victory without adding any generals. Your key to victory? Strategic offensive with a tactical defense and concentration at the point of attack. Here's how you do it.
North Battle Group Orders: Clear Upper Michigan Peninsula
This group consists of Barclay, Senyavin and surrounding units. 1st round, move Barclay to the market and trade all your iron and food for cash and upgrade both Level iii cities. Trade and upgrade both again before moving Barclay to attack the fort. The heavy horse will charge your light Art so stay behind your grenadier. Then in R2 flank and bombard.
This group faces a lot of small forts. This grenadier, light infantry, and light artillery can take them all. The trick is, don't attack with your infantry until after your artillery has had two free attacks, i.e.
Flank
Artillery attack end turn
Move artillery forward, attack
Infantry attack
Always keep the artillery moving forward and out of range of counterattack.
Drummond and a double militia will come South. Use Senyavin and frigate to attack militia first as soon as it's in range to keep it away from your city, then give drummond room to get on a ship and then surround and attack out of range of the ship.
Barclay plays across this front using his 3 movement to help wherever needed. Take the stable and village, ignore the medium Br. fort in the South. Build light cav, they are strong for the Russians.
By Round 8, concentrate Senyavin, Barclay and all units on the factory, middle fort, port complex. Beware of coastal Cannon. Flank the fort and have Barclay and Senyavib hit it, Use a cavalry to charge the light artillery.
After you take that complex, that groups Next battle is crossing the strait. Flank Elphinstone next to the coast and have Barclay bomb him getting his damage bonus against ships.
Once you defeat Elphinstone, Canada is yours! Spam single formation grenadiers to parade behind Barclay. Keep Barclay moving across Canada, stealing facilities and striking out at vulnerable artillery. Keep a train of troops behind him to take defended positions. Your target is the factory North of Maine. Once you capture it, move south to eliminate remaining British.
The Final northwest British complex can be taken care of by spam in later rounds. Strategically it's not a threat.
Benningsen and the Southern Campaign
While Barclay's mission is primarily geographic, Benningsen's is elimination. In the first 10 rounds, aid your American and French Allies in surrounding the Indians and repelling the Spanish. If Benningsen is your queen, the double light cav is your rook. Don't waste your cav on fortified positions; instead use your double line infantry to flank and then charge. Bgsen can handle the heavy lifting.
Bgsen's mid Round target is the stable in Indiana and Cleveland's tavern. Get the stable build a double heavy and then a double guard cav as Bgsen takes Cleveland.
Add Palafox to the double heavy cav and Cotton to the guard cav.
Now it's circa R25, you have Barclay in N. Canada and 3 OPEN cav generals in the middle. Send Palafox south to Washington. Capture Yorktown, defeat Hessians and Cornplanter.
Bgsen and Cotton move North capture the facilities around the lakes then take out Sidney. The final piece will be Brock in Providence.
Tips for Generals
Put a quick infantry general like Vic or Maria on the northern light infantry and use them to help Barclay flank.
Put a cav general on your double light Cav in the South. Bgsen goes direct to Cleveland while the double light cav general deals with Spain.
Put an artillery general on the light artillery. Since the light artillery seldom is counterattacked, don't worry about the low hp.
You can add two more generals. A trader in the North, navy on the frigate or free agents are all possible. With generals you don't need to add tavern guys.
