Things I would like to change about EW4
Hello, First I would like to outline the great things about this game:
The Campaign missions were the most detailed EasyTech has made before GoG 3
200 Generals gives a lot of detail and variety
Taverns make later conquests possible without generals
The contrast of map colours are incredibly satisfying
The difference between a normal unit and a unit even with generals like Rosenberg and Caradja can be felt, giving an extra quality and enthusiasm to generals.
Best of all...you can steal from your allies, and they will declare war. Diplomacy in a 2015 EasyTech game, right? Have fun making the entire map a Serb bleached red like I did, putting 5 hours and 239 turns into making Europe ruled by the glorious Serbian Empire!!!!!! (I have completely broken my stamina for conquests now btw)
Now letβs go through its many flaws.
Parts of the conquest are grossly inaccurate. The American conquests I am completely fine with, for it would just be Spain, USA, and Britain if it was truly historically accurate. Here are some pet peeves I would like to fix about general distribution and territory
1798
I believe that if the HRE was just its own entity instead of swallowing Austria as well, it would make for a much more interesting game. I also think that Prussia should be neutral to give Poland a better chance, and to balance this out, Denmark, an already fiercelt neutral country to begin with should be neutral as well. As for generals, I would give the HRE 5, (Johann I, Klenau, Hotze, Rosenberg, Heinrich XV), Austria 5, (Leiberich, Wurmser, Archduke Charles, Lusignan, Melas), and France 10 (Moreau, Jourdan, Massena, Napoleon, Marmont, Serurier, Berthier, Suchet, Savary, Vandamme). This would ultimately balance things out. While HRE and Austria combined have 10 generals, only 4 are anywhere near good, while France only gets one terrible general, Vandamme, in exchange for literally any allies.
1806
This was supposed to be Franceβs time of glory, right? So why is Lannes on cavalry and Savary on infantry? The Coalition has a massive advantage in this era, and I donβt like it. At this point, France was right on the doorstep of both Vienna and Berlin, so that frontline should show. They will have 12 generals this time (Lannes, Soult, Ney, Augerau, Napoleon (on cav), Bernadotte, Murat, Davout, Grouchy, Oudinot, Marmont, Villeneuve), while Austria, to make up for their compromising position will have 7 generals, (Radetzky, Archduke John, Archduke Charles, Merveldt, Johann I, Klenau), and Prussia will have 6 generals (LβEstocq, Wilhelm III, Bulow, Yorck, Clausewitz, Kleist). Russia will have Kutuzov, Bagration, and Alexander I at Warsaw, ready to help the Austrians and Prussians, there will be Bennigsen, Buxhoedheven, and Barclay for a mock Eylau, and then Yermolov, Golitsyn, and Sacken for the Ottomans. Italy at this point will be a French ally. Most French generals will be at the frontline with Villenueve in Brest, and Grouchy in Paris. While the Prussians, Russians, and Austrians outnumber the French generals, they are lacking in artillery which France is not. This is tilted towards the Coalition, but let them catch a break! Vienna and Berlin are within breathing distance of Napoleon! Also, The Ottomans and Spanish will have a more agressive AI. Spain will not get a Palafox or Diez yet
(only Joyes, Reding, and Ricardos as well as Ferdinand VIII uselessly on a fort), but they now have an OP navy with Gravinas, Huarte, and Cisneros, and have enough power to prevent the British from landing in Europe, which will make the conquest ever so slightly easier.
1809
Remove 1809 to replace with 1811. In 1811, France has most of its army in Poland, ready to invade Russia. Austria And Prussia will be neutral. To cancel this out, guess what Spain gets? Palafox and Diez! The British also have a navy with Duckworth in the Medditarean, they have Wellesley and Graham in Iberia, and many more generals with a massive navy poised to invade France. The Rhine will make their debut, (replace Davout with Berthier and Suchet), and Russia will have loads of generals. In the end, there are only 4 coalition players in this one, but they all have their amaing generals kitted on top-tier units, and the blues are a bit overstretched.
1815
Cannot find anything wrong with this one tbh.
Changing Map Styles
This one bugs me a lot, so I want to switch these around so they make more sense.
1798-France has a long way to go, but they are pretty able on this one. Keep this map style
1806-The War ended at Eylau and Friedland, barely a dent into Russia. Also, lots of naval engagements. 1809 map style for this one
1811-Russian expedition, so 1815 would be best for this one
1815-1806 for obvious reasons. It will take forever for France to get all the way to Ryazan.
No General Randomization Systems
This one bugs me a lot, as I had to go through countless restarts simply because I was at a brick wall that required another decent artillery general to smash through, yet none were showing up. I would rather a WC3 system, where there would be certain generals in certain academies it would go like this: Berlin (Prussian,Saxon), Vienna (HRE,Bavarian, Baden And Wurttemburg), St. Petersburg (Russian), Paris (French), London (British), Istanbul (Turkish,African,Balkan), Rome, (Polish, Scandinavian, Dutch, Italian), And Madrid (Spanish,American,Portuguese,Other). This will stop the useless refresh striving and contribute to a better game as a whole.
Redoing The Princesses
So...Princesses. The most OP part of this game. I will not remove them, goodness no, but I will remake them. Instead of years ruled, you must get under 65 rounds with the certain country that princess is required, WC3 style. Some of this will be OP, but Eylau and Leipzig were already rage-inducing enough, so we donβt have to write fan fiction about it. I was thinking to also add a Prussian and Spanish one as well as I donβt really want to go through the pain of thinking of an Asian general that wouldnβt be in the game.. Also, instead of making them, well, princesses, we make them actual free generals at the end of conquests. So here was what I was thinking:
France, Grouchy. Spain, Beresford. UK, Duckworth. Prussia, Yorck. Austria, Merveldt. Ottoman, Nenadovich. American, Hopkins. Russian, Alexander I.
In essence, EW4 is a great game for its certain time period. While I grew up on WC3, which will always be my favorite, EW4 comes a close second. The thing is, I don't understand why game development companies stop updating games once a new one comes out. EW4 was one of their best games to date, so why not improve it?
