Noob here. Love this game. Haven't even looked at my other game since I started this.
I've got Jackson, Moltke, Sheridan, Sherman, Grant, Beauregard, Burnside, Mead, Loof, Farragaut. Three starred most of chapter 1 challenges. Two incomplete chapter 2 campaign stages (just started the challenges). Already opened stage ten for the Arty General in chapter three (haven't tried for him yet, probably take me ten or fifteen tries to get him). Two starred Gettysburgh in history,Close to two starring March to the Sea. I've got about 770 medals and 70,000 cash. My question is this: What generals should I go after? I'm leaning towards adding either Inf or Cav commander but I've already got 4 cav generals. Should I go Infantry? Artillery? I'm getting bogged down with what I got.

Get either Ivanov or Beseler as you don't have any decent art general.
Inf generals are the least useful in the game (you shouldn't be deploying any in conquests unless you want to increase the difficulties). Get all the top cav and art generals first. IMO, Inf generals that can be used in history mode (such as Macmahon, Maria, Garibaldi) are sufficient.

Spend the cash on upgrading your new Beseler/Ivanov, maybe Jackson or Moltke. Continue farming campaigns as until the 13-ish campaign in Russia, campaigns are a breeze. The US Challenges are easy so 3* them, and try your best with the German one. Farm conquests too, as free money!

Sell Meade and Sherman, buy Ivanov (or another Gold Arty), then buy Lee (Straußenberg if you prefer.)

Gut was telling me Arty, but I figured I was about to acquire another one. Selevanov is trash, sell Sherman, Beauregard, Burnsides, and Meade. Then, get MacArthur, Straussenburg after the arty generals.

Sell all your medal bought generals, they're unnecessary and history mode won't help you achieve much in early game, plus it get very difficult very quick. I would recommend you immediately buy one of the gold artillery generals (I would recommend Beseler), then save up for Stratssenburg. DO NOT invest in subpar generals unless you're at the endgame and wants to do history mode.

Also, a reason why you are struggling to do missions is that you aren't upgrading your unit tech, which you should upgrade before buying any items or upgrading general skills etc.

Appreciate all the advice. ash1234 mentioned "unit tech". Please explain that. To see about unit tech go to the Training (Idk button maybe?). Each Chapter has its own maximum tech level example chapter I (Civil War) some Unit tech can be upgrade to lvl 2 some not able yet. To upgrade it you need to use coin. There's also same badge if you complete conquest challenge that will give +1 level on a tech level (Units defense/attack/hp)

Thanks for clarifying. i'm maxed out on everything except population and the only reason I'm not maxed out there is because most of the bonus units aren't even available to me yet

Thanks for clarifying. i'm maxed out on everything except population and the only reason I'm not maxed out there is because most of the bonus units aren't even available to me yet I mean, population isn't that important. But the special units can be easily unlocked during conquest. Or they are given to you in campaign missions. Some are quite helpful (guard grenardiers, krupp cannons, sipahi cavalry) so it wouldn't hurt to lower their population to the lowest level. The french special units are especially GREAT, and in WW1 conquests (1914, 17) I'm pretty sure you automatically get some as apart of your starting units. edit: Forgot to mention this, but I'm pretty sure there are some campaign challenge missions where there is a condition of 'population no more than........) So population is important further down the line. Especially in history and conquest. It shouldn't be a priority though, but fort, bunker, fence, etc tech can be neglected until you get near the end of the game
