AXIS
*note: this isn't ranking the generals from best to worse, rather who to get first*
Also it is important to note I only invested in axis generals first, but if you want to invest in allied generals, look below and just put govorov in 1st, roko 2nd and patton 3rd and then get macarthur (because he unlocks later and if you're only investing in allies, you should be ok), I made it though
Guderian - First general, best medium tank gen, but medium tanks are a liability if you have no support. Although if they're weak units, dont worry too much.
Leeb - Hits so damn hard, hurts when artillery leader doesn't activate, but when it does, he shreds ( arty is needed in the first three parts )
Rommel - Heavy Tanks are good for clearing annoying infantry (slices through early game to get the rest of these other good generals)
Rundstedt - Very hot infantry general who is the peak alpha male in all of existence which you will need
Donitz - better swimmer dude ( but really good and needed to get beacheads and defeat other navy generals like nimitz *along with kesselring of course*)
Kesselring - best naval air general, still usable if you need someone on a paratrooper ( needed for aircraft carriers )
Yamamoto - Hot take but made a load of pacific missions a whole lot easier, best land air general (needed for late game, you're gonna need a land air general)
Now somehow I made it from 1939 to 1942 without any bought general for the allies, however YOU WILL NEED AN INFANTRY GENERAL. So with that out of the way
GET MACARTHUR ( he makes everything so much easier )
and for the hell of it i'll talk about the free allied generals
Chuikov - arty gen, decent
Leclerc - heavy tank general, not bad surprisingly
Timoshenko - medium tanker
Arnold - CAME IN CLUTCH SO MANY TIMES WITH AVIATION FUEL ( all around air general )
Cunningham - just put him on strongest ship ( not the aircraft carrier )
Alexander - secondary to any armored/artillery unit
Now I am currently in 1945 and im probably gonna buy either patton or nimitz (tier 1 allied generals dont have as much depth over tier 1 axis generals in terms of numbers)
Probably gonna get patton for heavy, roko for medium, gorovov for arty and nimitz along with hasely (naval air) / dowding (land)
^in that exact order
