This is my hypothesis of how Drummond is the best F2P artillery general His Skillset Drummond has Spy and Ballistics for his skills, as well as 4* artillery ability. This means that on a rocket, he can easily get triple digit damage on forts. If you donβt believe me, play Britain 1806.
His Convenience Drummond is with Beresford, Palafox, and Grouchy, in your starting academy. This means you do not have to grind missions to find him, unlike the other recommended artillery generals like Kutaisov and Marmont. He is also 790 medals, compared to Grouchyβs 910. Donβt get me wrong, Grouchy is a great artillery general in the F2P world, but spy has been switched out for engineer, making him the fastest F2P artillery general. Once again, correct me if I am wrong.
He is the Best Of The Best Here is a list of all the recommended F2P artillery generals, from worst to best: Gazan: Yes, he is in your first academy refresh, and incredibly cheap, but you donβt need a general at that point yet. Cartreux: Kutaisov lite Kutaisov: Siege Master makes for a deadly combo against forts and towns Marmont: Powerful. The name of the artillery game. Sockolnicki: Scharnhorst Lite. Donβt let those 2 stars throw you off. Grouchy: If youβd rather speed over power, and are willing to pay 150 more medals for it, this is your guy Drummond: For sheer power Scharnhorst: Probably the only general who outdoes Drummond, and you get what you pay for I guess, because while this guy is expensive, he becomes a more powerful Grouchy.
Overall, only marginally worse than Scharnhorst, but easier to get, and much cheaper.

It seems really dicey spending medals on a general lacking one of the bugle/ accuracy/ strike trifecta.

First of all, the refreshes base totally on luck. Drummond might not show up right away for other people. Also, Scharnhorst costs 795, not much more expensive than Drummond.
Drummond's biggest problem is Sophia, the best fort cracker on artillery, being free and very easily accessible. If you don't like princesses and have tons of medals to burn, even Ney could outperform Drummond. Drummond's ability to crack forts is second to none without any regroups, but his damage against other units leaves some space to be desired. If I need a fort cracker in a no princess lineup, I'd pick Sulkowski and use Scharnhorst and Ushakov as my artillery generals.

If you are not using Princesses, Scharnhorst is first artillery and Ushakov second on a 6 general team.

Me, who spends hours of playtime to find Scharnhorst, and after never finding him buys Collingwood. Not finding Scharnhorst was my problem on my first play ever. While I was searching him, I got my first princesses. So I joined Sophia and spend the ScharnhorstποΈ directly for the potent gunpowder from the shop... and I never had any need for a male combat general at all. Searching one general can last verrrrrry long: 96 Generals in Tier 1. I usually search Diez and I evaluate the Chance (in %) to find one special general:6.5% | for each refresh | 48% | for 10 lotteries | 73% | for 20 lotteries | 80% | for 25 lotteries | 90% | for 35 lotteries |
I never learned statistics, please tell me if I'm wrongWith my mods with free refreshes, I experienced already a few times, that I needed 30++ refreshes to find one. Edit: Right now: Searching Drumont for my posting took 28 Refreshes!

Same misunderstanding I had with Goering in WC3. Drummond is with Beresford, Grouchy, and Palafox in the starting t2 generals. You don't even have to refresh to acquire him. OK, agreed.

I was just preparing my post... Yes Scharnhorst is (far) the best f2p artillery general. And like Erich von Manstein said: If you need to attack stoned forts, not with artillery! A guards cavalary has +100HP more and a spy already on board. Sulkowski (the only one, I may buy sometime) gets +125% on guards against forts, this means: 1 pistol = +13DMG his 4β = +45DMG -> more than +70DMG flat on top of the unit DMG (1-60)

But the chances of not getting one of Ushakov, Scharnhorst, Ney, or Yermolov is lower higher. Any of those 3 have far more end game potential than drummond.
