So I know there are posts about how Ushijima's trash, etc., but now I want to explore some of Gerd von Rundstedt 's talking points. Frankly, I have been talking some trash about Ushijima, but I really want to get to know Ushijima. Gerd von Rundstedt , prepare to either be really happy or very sad.
But on the other side, it's Kuribayashi! An OK-ish price performer but outclassed by Messe in WC4, he seems to have made a comeback. Personally, I'm rooting for him.
Ushijima's Skills vs. Kuribayashi's skills:
Note: All of their skills are gold.
1. Crowd Tactics vs Bayonet Charge (Kuribayashi win)
CT does +10 if you outnumber the enemy in terms of stacks. Now Gerd says it activates during counterattacks, so I'll take his word for it.
BC does +12 only on attacks according to Gerd.
BC is better. CT activates on CATs, but you take damage, thus reducing your HP, thus losing a stack, thus losing CT's boost.
But wait 6Johnny23, what is you sit on a city? Well wait.
2. Scout vs. Samurai (Kuribayashi win)
Scout is +10% upon per enemy scouted. So you can't sit in a city and use CT all day, unless he's your last unit, which in that case you're doomed. But on the offensive, some potential. But it's far from a city and can't heal fast, unless you have a route planned, but infantry can be fragile when left alone, and CT is useless when you are dead.
Samurai makes it so you can't loose morale. If it works like (I believe) Inspiration in GCR, it has real potential. It's like a never die Samurai special force. Even if it isn't that OP, it can have real use, in a siege an all.
Decisive Kuribayashi win.
3. Desperate vs. Raider (Kuribayashi win)
Desperate is a good skill, but you need to be COUNTERATTACKED! Infantry and artillery aren't very strong, so CT is useless, Scout is useless, NONE of Ushi's skills pair up.
Raider is a +24% chance to crit. Crits are strong. Assuming that the default rate of crits are 5%, that's 29% chance to crit. Almost 3/10. With a 1% to crit, 1/4. Not bad odds.
Kuri win.
Gerd's Ushi Skills:
1. CT is better than BC, it can activate on CATs. CATS also kill stacks which means CT loses its buff Gerd.
2. Scout saves EXP so more EXP when replenishing/recruiting units. You will already see everything with Guderian and Rommel, Gerd.
3. Desperate is a good supporting buff. This is true, but only on CATs, and read point #1, CATs and CT don't go together. It's good on Vatutin because Vatutin is a tank general, and tanks are well, tanks,
Cost: Ushi's cost is 720, enough to afford generals like Mannerheim and Vatutin, Kuri's cost is 615, reasonably cheap, in that ballpark of Slim and Tassingny, both in cost and in quality. So for 105 more medals, all you are gaining is 2 more movement *s, and lose lots of quality.
But 6Johnny23, Ushi's a hybrid! Infantry and arty! Well Rommel's a hybrid too, but you use him for one thing, Panzers! And you can get Badoglio, better than Ushi by lots.
Bonus Comparisons:
(underlined = winner)
Ushijima vs. Mannerheim - Mannerheim is 15 medals cheaper, an infantry killer (infantry is common spam), and demoralizer (Ushi's demoralizer is better, but doen't work with one of his skills), and can kill those pesky special forces. And better *s.
Ushijima vs. Badoglio - Same stats in arty and movement, but Economics is a lifesaver, and Badoglio has 2/3 Leeb skills. And Leeb is one of the best.
Note: CATs = Counterattacks
