Eliminating units with generals Specifically generals? For units with generals, you regain 3%, for normal units (Any units, whether they are forts, ships, cavalry, infantry, artillery...anything) you regain 1% It is advisable to setup refresh grinds in conquests so that you gain refreshes easily. One simple method is go to "Fire of Revolution" in "Coalition" campaign. Weaken Davout and Moreau and then save it. Make sure that you kill them both in the same round and then reload the save. Repeat this process how many times you want. Like this, you can get 1 refresh every 16-17 reloads.

Eliminating units with generals Specifically generals? Especially generals on tripple stacked infantry (6x). You get refresh depending of the formation of an unit you eliminate (1,2,3) Units with a general count double. As the refreshpoints/refreshpercent ratio is not integer is it can be difficult to understand the exact mechanic.

Another way is to make a large grinding save. The best option is 1775 US where you can arrange multiple British generals ready for slaughter in 1 turn.
