So I was playing Operation Hailstone and on turn 12, Koga just vanished. I had him surrounded and enough firepower to finish him off to get the perfect clear but he just vanished. I scouted all places around his previous location but couldn't find him. Also, I completed the mission without ever killing him even though it's an "annihalate the enemy" mission. Is it scripted for him to disappear off screen?

Huh. Why don't they just make it "Kill Koga before turn 11" then? You kinda can't kill him if he's offscreen.

yup, you have to kill him before he vanishes. Annihilate the enemy means annihilating everything on the map, and if Koga has retreated out of the map, annihilating everything else on the map is still a victory. Now to answer the question - Where did Koga go? Koga went back to Japan on the Musashi (The battleship). He decided to evacuate out of Truk when he speculated that the Americans would attack sometime soon. (He died the following month as his plane got caught in a typhoon) Huh. Why don't they just make it "Kill Koga before turn 11" then? You kinda can't kill him if he's offscreen. Well, that is what the game implies by placing it as the sub-objective with a time limit. "Eliminate Koga by turn 12" (before he retreats). Even if he didn't retreat, and you killed him after turn 12, you would still fail the Sub-objective after all. They wanted to give it a bit of historical accuracy

I know but usually, if you kill him on turn 12, you will get the sub-objective. I had enough firepower and was prepared to kill him on turn 12, but I couldn't find him on that turn. I'm just a little frustrated because now I have to play 18 more rounds.
